Elva Munoz
Wells Fargo Bank

|
As an Assistant Vice President with Wells Fargo Bank, N. A.,
I have over twelve years of banking experience; the last four
have been as a Relationship Manager (Business Banker) here
in Colorado Springs, CO. As a Business Relationship Manger,
I enjoy working with customers and helping them be successful
in their businesses by providing continuing financial advice
as appropriate, determining customers commercial loan and deposit
needs and deepen existing customer relationships, by acting
as the customers advocate in securing suitable credit as well
as products and services. I structure and complete straight
forward secured and unsecured business and individual loans.
I recently closed a $1.5MM loan on a Neighborhood Retail Shopping
Center. As A Wells Fargo Employee I contribute both with my
time and financially to various non-profit organizations in
the community. Recently I have served on the Colorado Springs
Wagon Wheel Girl Scouts Council Board, the United Way Allocation
Committee, the Junior Achievement Elementary Schools Program,
and I am currently on the YMCA Camp Shady Brook Board as well
as a current Board Member of EWI Colorado Springs Chapter.
Wells Fargo has a long history in Colorado. In 1852, Henry
Wells and William Fargo founded Wells Fargo & Co. to provide
banking and express service to western pioneers. The company
began operations in Colorado in November 1861, when Wells Fargo
took control of the major overland stagecoach lines in the
West, with the purchase of stagecoach king Ben Holladay's stage
routes. After this grand consolidation, Wells Fargo & Company
incorporated in the Colorado Territory.
A Denver newspaper editor told Coloradans that Wells Fargo
could now "attend to their business to the ends of the earth
if required." Its stagecoaches brought transportation,
mail and dependable banking and express service to settlers
all over the west. Wells Fargo met the challenge of driving
stages through the harsh Rocky Mountain winters.
In the summer of 1875, several railroads established their
own express operations and Wells Fargo temporarily withdrew
from the express transportation business in Colorado. Wells
Fargo returned to Colorado in 1881 and today is the state's
largest financial services company, serving customers through
more than 150 banking stores, 28 Wells Fargo Home Mortgage
locations and 22 Wells Fargo Financial locations in 65 communities.
For more than 100 years Wells Fargo has been supporting financial
opportunities for women. As early as 1869, Wells Fargo helped
incorporate the Women's Cooperative Printing Union. And, a
number of women served as Wells Fargo agents at express offices
across the nation.
In 1995, Wells Fargo Women's Business Services Program was
launched as an education and outreach program that builds relationships
with women business owners and supporters, helping them increase
their access to capital and other financial services.
As the first financial services provider in the country to
establish a national program dedicated to women small business
owners, Wells Fargo continues to raise the bar as a leading
supporter of women entrepreneurs nationwide
The original program was a 10-year commitment to loan $15
billion to women-owned businesses. The program has far exceeded
original expectations and to date, more than $31.5 billion
has been lent to women small-business owners across the country
as of Q4-07!
Wells Fargo offers the industry's most powerful combination
of dedicated people and technology to provide you unsurpassed
service 24/7.
Wells Fargo business bankers save you time, maximize your
money and are committed to helping you succeed financially.
As a Wells Fargo customer, you receive:
-
personal service and responsiveness from
a business banker that you can count on
-
a collaborative professional who always
has your best interest in mind when making recommendations,
and
-
capability and expertise to work with you
across the entire range of business financial services
Let a Wells Fargo Business Banker serve as your personal
Wells Fargo's full range of services for your personal and
business needs give you flexibility, speed and competitive
advantage. This extensive range of services includes commercial
real estate lending, equipment financing, banking, business
insurance, investments, cash management, merchant card, payroll,
foreign exchange, online banking.
Business Banker
Aside from its strong historical ties to the state, Wells
Fargo's commitment to the Pikes Peak Region and Colorado extends
far beyond just being a leading provider of financial services
to meet all of its customers financial needs and help them
succeed financially. It also includes the role of an employer
that encourages and values work force diversity, and being
a committed corporate citizen that helps to maintain its communities
as great better places to live, work and do business.
The cornerstone of Wells Fargo's community banking philosophy
is local leadership. Location presidents, who know their communities
and their customers well, are responsible for decisions on
lending, sales and marketing, and contributions.
Wells Fargo has a long history of supporting the state's nonprofit
community by providing monetary contributions, employee volunteers
and in-kind donations to a wide range of organizations.
In 2007, Wells Fargo contributed more than $3.7 million to
1,000 different organizations in Colorado and team members
logged more than 25,000 volunteer hours in their local communities.
Wells Fargo - committed to giving Colorado its best!!

President's Message ...
Changing The Way Leaders Are Made
by Susan Davis,
Wells Fargo Wealth Management
Group |
|
What are girls saying about leadership?
Girl Scout Research Institute – Change
It Up! What Girls Say About Redefining Leadership, March 2008 *
-
More than half of American girls say they don’t aspire
to be leaders because girls are turned off by the conventional
conception
of leadership as command and control.
-
68 percent of survey respondents
said they would want to be leaders who stand
up “for their beliefs and values,” and 59 percent said they would
like to be a leader “who tries to change the world for the better.” Majority
of girls would aspire to be a different kind of leadership focused on personal
principles, ethical behavior and the ability to affect social change.
-
Girls were
more likely than boys to be motivated to be leaders because they want to
help other people (67 percent vs. 53 percent), share their knowledge
and skills
with others (53 percent vs. 47 percent) and change the world for the better
(45 percent vs. 31 percent).
- Girls today appear to be redefining
leadership in terms of being more inclusive and serving a larger
purpose.
What are Girl Scouts doing to address these needs?
-
Girl Scouts
is unveiling the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
-
It focuses on
three keys to leadership – Discover, Connect and Take Action – with
girls being encouraged to take on increasing responsibility for
designing and implementing activities.
-
The new program focuses on
national outcomes as girls see how their actions can impact
the lives of others.
This month we have an opportunity to positively
impact
the lives of young girls by providing them excellent
role models and mentoring through
our
EWI chapter.
EWI is partnering with Girl Scouts of Colorado on Wednesday August
13th for a Got Money Workshop that will provide girls ages 11-17
with critical
financial
information for succeeding as a child and as an adult in today’s
diverse financial landscape. During this “crash course” taught
by local businesswomen affiliated with EWI, girls will learn
how to budget
and save,
about loans and
lines of credit, how to invest, where to put your money (checking,
savings, CDs, IRAs, 401Ks and 529 college saving plans) and financial
101 concepts
such as
what the stock market is and does. As members of this community
and organization we can empower young women with knowledge, education,
increased self-esteem
and leadership capacity for the future.

Our program for August is a collaboration between EWI
and the Girl Scouts - called GOT MONEY.
This will be an interactive
program to combine our mission of Community and EWI by
providing stations with volunteer leaders to teach young
women lifelong
money habits. Each station
will have a topic and the girls and EWI member "partners" will
rotate to all of the tables.
Upon completion, the girls will
earn a charm, like the badges we used to earn, for their
new knowledge. They have a wonderful booklet that will be
our
guide for the evening. Sandy Taylor and
Marty Lockhart from our Colorado Springs office have worked
with
Susan Davis and me on this program.
This is a unique opportunity for us to share our vast knowledge
and help the Girl Scouts prepare for their financial future.
It promises to be a fun and new type of program and we encourage
you to step up and serve as leaders at a table. There will
be 7 stations and 2 women
have
already volunteered to man 2 of them. We will need 5 more
women for the leadership position at the other 5 tables,
so please contact me if you would
enjoy teaching our Girl Scouts financial tools for their
future.
Please Save the Date: AUGUST 13, 2008 for GOT MONEY with
the Girl Scouts and
EWI.

July Meeting
On July 9th in the newly established Cheyenne Mountain
State Park Visitor Center, Experience Colorado Springs at Pikes
Peak showcased the history of tourism in the Pikes Peak region
and how it positively impacts our local economy. CJ Seals, the
Director of Visitor Services, discussed how our founding fathers,
General Palmer and Spencer Penrose, established this area as a
tourist destination with the coming of the railroad in the late
19th century. Katharine Lee Bates (a.k.a. Doris McGraw) was also
in attendance and provided a lively first-hand account of her travels
up to the top of Pikes Peak which inspired the creation of her
well known poem, America the Beautiful. Kim Griffis, Membership
Sales Manager and Film Commissioner, brought everyone up to speed
on how tourism has developed into the third largest industry in
El Paso County and brings over $1 Billion of travel related revenue
into our region every year. Kim also discussed how the Convention
and Visitors Bureau assists in bringing business and leisure travelers
to Colorado Springs and surrounding areas for valuable financial
opportunities and tax relief to our business owners and local residents.
We also had a park ranger from the newest state park, Cheyenne
Mountain State Park, share the history of the region, what is available
in the park this summer and what we can expect to see over the
next couple of years.
We also had a special visitor, Leslie McGinn, Executive Director,
with Go Red For Women with the American Heart Association tell
us about an educational event coming up in October for women in
our community. This event will be a half day with lunch on education
topics for women to learn more about heart disease and to pay attention
to the signs. Heart disease is the number one killer of women.
The delicious food was supplied by one of our own, The Food Designers
and had the perfect southwest flair to match out stunning surroundings.
Set amongst beautiful fields of greenery and a wide open sky, a
fun time was had by all and it was easy to see why so many people
come to visit the great Pikes Peak region and often choose to move
here!
