6th Annual Scholastic Classic Golf Tournament

WOW!!!  What a great day.  The weather cooperated beautifully for the golf tournament.  It was so much fun to see everyone take off in their golf carts and everyone on the sidelines clapping and cheering for the golfers.  The Kissing Camels Golf Club did such a wonderful job (as always) on the tournament, the set-up and according to Doug the weather and Abby taking the pictures which is featured online for everyone to enjoy. (Click Here and enter "EWI Golf Tournament" to see Kreuser Gallery online photos of the tournament.)

The wonderful volunteers from EWI, I thank you all so much for all of your hard work.  The process went smooth and everyone pitched in from the night before at the Old Town Guesthouse where we stuffed the "tee bags" to those who helped through to the end of the luncheon.  We had the first place winners for Men, Women and Mixed who received Gift Cards from Kissing Camels! 

After the tournament we went across the street to the Garden of the Gods Club and had drinks on the terrace which overlooked the beautiful Garden of the Gods and a great lunch in the room which opened up to the same view as the terrace.  What can I say about the sponsors we had on our raffle - they were GREAT!!!! 

We were lucky to have two of our sponsorship recipients with us at the luncheon, Rebecca Tonne and Nicole Wilder, so everyone there can see the benefits of our scholarship tournament.  One of the comments I continuously heard was how wonderful our gifts were.  We had everything from the top of our heads to the tips of our toes and beyond. 

I cannot express how grateful I am to all who participated this year, you were the greatest.  It continued to make our tournament one of the BEST in town and this is from the "golfer's mouths".  I have the names of all who sponsored us this year listed below, please take time to review these names and give thanks to all who did help to make our event so successful. 

Again I would like to thank ALL the people who helped make this a GREAT event for our scholarship recipients and our L-Cam ladies.  Whenever you have a chance to help people in any capacity it leaves you with a wonderful feeling and I feel this way about the support we received from everyone in EWI.  You all are wonderful!

Meeting requirements and RSVP

  • EWI Program Coordinators must confirm attendance numbers with the hotel or other catering company in advance.

  • No shows are charged -- we need to have timely RSVPs into the Sergeant-at-Arms the Friday before the monthly meeting which is the second Wednesday of each month.

  • It costs EWI to pay for those that RSVP and don’t show. Once our numbers are confirmed with the hotel or other catering company, any no shows and any late cancellations must be charged in full.

  • EWI is required to pay for all of its registered guests, whether or not they attend.

The Gazette is partnering with Leadership Pikes Peak, COPPeR (Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region) and the Pikes Peak Library District on a 2-year-long groundbreaking community visioning project called Dream City Vision 2020. Congratulations to Dianne Crimble for her graduation in Leadership Pikes Peak Class of 2008.

The 10-Month Signature Program began in 1979 out of the desire to introduce a diverse group of business, government, and nonprofit leaders and community members to an in-depth study of the issues and opportunities facing the Pikes Peak region. Entering its twenty-sixth year, participants commit to an average of one day a month over ten months to gain a deeper understanding of the community by integrating in depth knowledge, leadership skill development, and opportunities to take action.

Kathy Wallace, WallaceVISION, LLC will be exhibiting pottery at the Colorado Farm & Art Market most Saturdays, 9 - 1, up at the Margarita restaurant. Come by, check out the art, and get some fresh, fresh produce!

You are invited to Kathy's one person art show "Dreams in Life" opening Friday, August 1st at the Bridge Gallery. The opening will run from 5 to 8pm. Come by and see new work!



Our program for August is a collaboration between EWI and the Girl Scouts - called GOT MONEY.

This will be an interactive program to combine our mission of Community and EWI by providing stations with volunteer leaders to teach young women lifelong money habits. Each station will have a topic and the girls and EWI member "partners" will rotate to all of the tables.

Upon completion, the girls will earn a charm, like the badges we used
to earn, for their new knowledge. They have a wonderful booklet that will be our guide for the evening. Sandy Taylor and Marty Lockhart from our Colorado Springs office have worked with Susan Davis and me on this program.

This is a unique opportunity for us to share our vast knowledge and help the Girl Scouts prepare for their financial future. It promises to be a fun and new type of program and we encourage you to step up and serve as leaders at a table. There will be 7 stations and 2 women have already volunteered to man 2 of them. We will need 5 more women for the leadership position at the other 5 tables, so please contact me if you would enjoy teaching our Girl Scouts financial tools for their future.

25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Our Colorado Springs Chapter will be celebrating it's 25th anniversary this year!

We are planning a gala event at The Broadmoor on October 17. Mark your calendars now for this wonderful event and more information will be provided in the newsletter and at our monthly meetings.

Minutes of the Colorado Springs Chapter

EXECUTIVE WOMEN INTERNATIONAL¨

May 7, 2008

Call to Order:

Meeting called to order by President, Susan L. Davis at 5:00 PM at Wells Fargo Bank, 90 S Cascade, 2nd floor, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

Roll Call:

Susan Davis, President; Pat Cooper, Secretary; Lynn Severson, SAA; Carol Bryant, Ways and Means; Joan Saucerman, Hospitality; Bea Steahlin, Historian; Audrey Shrive, Publicity; Christine Ressler, Treasurer. 8 present, quorum established

 

Minutes:

One correction to the minutes; change CC Foundation to UCCS Foundation in the Scholarship section. Motion by Carol Bryant and second by Lynn Severson, motion passed.

Results of the Flexible membership and Rules and Procedures vote by email were presented. Out of 58 eligible voting members, 44 votes were received, 77%; (three of the votes were ineligible). The changes were approved unanimously.

Treasurer's Report:

Report both by email and by Treasurer. As of April 30, 2008 Checking $ 8,654.79 BCDP $ 23,308.89 BCDP Endowment $ 183,952.29.

A register report of all income and expenses was provided.  The Financial Review Committee meet on May 28th, 2008 to audit the 2007 financial records in compliance with Corporate procedures. The audit has been submitted to our Corporate office, attached is a copy of the report.  The Investment Committee met and completed the B/C/DP Financial Review for 2007. Minutes of the meeting are attached. Treasurer Christine Ressler presented a summary of the recommended changes to our Endowment account to remain in compliance with our Investment Policy Statement. Copies of all investment performance and Morning Star reports of the recommended changes were available for review. Christine will email the summary portion of the recommended changes to all Board members. In addition, the Investment Policy Statement was presented with revisions to update the policy from the guidance of both our Corporate office and the Investment Committee. A copy of the revised Investment Policy is attached. A motion was made by Bea Steahlin and second by Joan Saucerman to approve the changes as presented, motion passed.

TREASURER'S UPDATE

As reported at the last EWI Board meeting, the Investment Committee met to perform the B/C/DP Financial Review and a review of the Chapter Investment Policy Statement. The B/C/DP Financial Review was completed successfully and submitted to Corporate. The Committee’s recommendations to revise certain verbiage in the Investment Policy and rebalance the Endowment account investments were approved by the Board. Anyone wishing to review copies of the Investment Committee Meeting Minutes, the adopted Revised Investment Policy Statement or the adopted Endowment Account re-allocation proposal please contact Chris Ressler (Christine@pprdc.com).

A very big Thank You! to our Investment Committee members: Charlotte Maier, Jan Weiland and Rick Sabata. And a special Thank You! to our President, Susan Davis and our past Treasurer, Pat Cooper. Everyone’s time and expertise is invaluable and much appreciated!

Hospitality - A card send to Kathryn Flobeck due to the recent loss of her sister.

Membership - Report by email.

53 Member Firms, 7 Additional Reps, 3 Sustaining Members, 19 Life Members, 1 Honorary Member, 1 Transitional member, Membership. Firms approved: Presidential Brokerage, representative, Brandy Merriam. My Sentiments Exactly, representative, Amy Kennedy. One application not approved, due to applicant did not meet membership criteria.

Scholarship - Kathleen will re-contact PP Foundation and CC Foundation to follow-up on potential membership. One of our Scholarship recipients may graduate this year. Kathleen will arrange to have one of our Scholarship recipients at our Scholastic Golf Tournament. 

Historian - Bea will be recording history at the golf tournament by helping with the picture taking. 

Publicity- A copy of the article in the CS Business Journal, May 30, 2008 by Rebecca Tonn featuring our last general membership meeting was presented. Audrey Shrive is working with Sandy Taylor for coverage of the general meeting in August with the Girl Scouts. Susan Davis was quoted in a CS Business Journal in an article discussing "Human Capital".

Sergeant-at-Arms - A copy of the membership attendance and venues was presented.
