Spot Light On...
6th Annual Scholastic Classic Golf Tournament
Carol Bryant & Dianne Crimble
|

|
Once again it is time to get our golf teams together, our
tee bag favors, our door prizes, golf cart and golf hole
sponsors for the 6th Annual Scholastic Classic
Golf Tournament.
Thank you to our sponsors! Wells Fargo, ENT
Federal Credit Union, Lane Affiliated Companies (PEPSI),
BKD, Select Hospital, Dianna Harris, Attorney At Law, and
Holland & Hart.
We are trying to reach 100% participation from our
members. This can be done in giving of your time, talent
or treasure. How exciting to be able to help other women
to reach their education goals by sponsoring a scholarship
or being able to send some of our dynamic women to LCAM!
This is an opportunity for all of us to be able to give back
to our organization and our community.
There are still opportunities for sponsoring Golf Holes
($300.00) and Golf Carts ($50.00). Some of our members
are also sharing Golf Hole Sponsorships. What an opportunity
to be able to have your company name throughout the tournament!
Anyone who would like to donate a door prize please contact
Marti Hartman at 719-574-0600 and if you would like to give
an item for the tee bags please contact Kathy Kelly at 719-632-2875. This
would also be a good opportunity to put something in the
tee bags with your company logos.
Look for the tournament advertisement (see below) in the
Gazette on March 28, 2008 and April 28, 2008. You can
sign up your foursome for the tournament on line at www.springsewi.com or contact Dianne Crimble
471-8320 or Carol Bryant 570-1068.
Thanks for making this our best golf event ever!

President's Message ...
Let Spring Bring Hope
by Susan Davis,
Wells Fargo Wealth Management
Group |
|
With the arrival of spring we look forward to brighter
skies, blooming flowers and the feel of a lush carpet of green
grass under our
feet. It brings us new hope that one day those of us searching
for the light at the end of our tunnel will see the light shine
through claiming our victory over our burdens.
Somehow the battle
of everyday life feels less overwhelming when the warmth of the
sun shines through. It’s as though a greater
spirit than ourselves is telling us they are here to help us find
the courage to keep our spirits as light and glowing as the early
morning dew.
We seldom take the time to enjoy these amazing wonders
when life places such demands on our time. Until tragedy befalls
our doorstep
do we awaken and realize how swiftly this could all be taken
away. We postpone taking that moment to smell the roses or appreciate
the beauty of awakening to a single ray of sunshine.
I hope that
any challenge in your life right now will open your eyes to see
how magical and beautiful your everyday lives should
be. When your lives become stress filled and burdens weigh
heavy on your mind, take a good look around you and see all the
blessings
and beauty that surround you and the good fortune to have all
these friends (especially EWI friends) of a very special kind.
I
give you my wish for a springtime of happiness and good health
and hope that you will turn and look carefully around you and
appreciate your wealth.

Spring Has Sprung!
The spring equinox and the fall equinox
are the two days in the year when the hours of daylight and
darkness are exactly equal.
There are 12 hours of each. From
March 20 or 21 until the longest day of the year on June
21 or 22, the nights will
grow shorter and shorter.
Life
is short, forgive quickly,
kiss slowly,
love wholeheartedly,
laugh uncontrollably.
Never regret anything that made you
smile!

March Meeting
March Meeting
Accountable
Communication
What is "accountable communication" and how will
it affect your relationships? Michael Higgins, President of
Stratactics (www.stratactics.com), showed us just how important
accountable communication is in our personal and professional
relationships in a lively, engaging and entertaining presentation.
Here's the definition Michael uses: personal accountability
is a high state of human function - freedom of choice in any
given situation based on the absence of the need for emotional
approval, taking care of, blame, justification or denial.
What's the brain got to do with it? As leaders we need
to involve the 3 areas of the brain to get the most from people
- by addressing the major needs of safety, meaning and challenge. Once
we understood the context of behavior we were introduced to
how problem solving appears in the world of survival and the
world of accountability. Michael explained it by comparing
the two.
Problem solving in the world
of
survival
Scarcity
Fear
My problem is
you
Me vs You
I have to change
you |
Problem
solving in the world of
accountability
Abundance
Strategy, security
My problem is
me
Me and You
I have to change
me |
A quick role play at our tables demonstrated how survival
behaviors show in a variety of situations. Some of the
behaviors we saw first hand included the need for emotional
approval, taking care/rescuing, blaming, justification, and
denial.
Michael's axioms for accountability are:
1. People are whole and complete and always at choice.
2. The only obstacle to a state of accountability and high resourcefulness
is one's unwillingness to leave the world of survival and reaction.
And the skills we need for accountability are to listen with
the whole body which is the ability to be with another person
with heart, mind and senses. Another skill is to tolerate and
deal with personal dissonance. Michael explained this as the
ability to see everyone, including yourself as complete so
you can be authentic about your discomfort. The last skill
is the ability to give and receive direct, authentic feedback.
We had a wonderful, entertaining evening and learned something
that each of us can use right away in all our relationships.
There was lost of laughter, participation and when it was over,
we wanted more!

has been extended by our Corporate office to March 15, 2008.
Some of the members still reconsidering per board members
that have followed up with the non-renewing members.
A motion was made to allow flexible representation from
member firms. A primary person will be identified from the
member firm as the primary contact person and will be allowed
to serve on the Board of Directors. The member firm must
attend a minimum of seven meetings per year to remain in
good standing. Susan Davis and Angie Stott to develop a "Letter
of Understanding" outlining alternative representative(s)
for member firms that will be attached to new applications.
Motion presented by Kathy Wallace and second by Lynn Severson.
Motion approved.
We currently have several member firms and potential member
