Spot Light On...
Sandy Taylor
Girl Scouts Of EWI!
|

|
What do Barbara Walters, Madeleine Albright, Nancy Lopez and Sandy
Taylor have in common? They are all Girl Scouts!
Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence and character who
make the world a better place and is the premier leadership development
experience
for girls. Are you aware that 66% of women of Professional
Achievement, 71% of the women in the Senate and 67% of women in the House of
Representatives were Girl Scouts? There is no doubt in my mind that the first
woman President will have been a Girl Scout! In addition, 53% of women business
owners were Girl Scouts, 8% go into a profession based on a badge or patch they
earned and 2% will use skills they learned to save a life.
Girl Scouting has a rich 95-year history. Since its inception,
the organization has built strength by adapting to the changing
needs and interests of the modern girl through the provision of
contemporary programs. The Matron Housekeeper badge was
replaced with Ms Fix It; the Interpreter with Global Awareness;
and the Signaler with the Communication badge.
You may be aware that Girl Scouts is going through change nationally
as well as locally in developing high capacity councils to expand
our reach and maximize our resources. With a focus on what is best
for the girls, these changes will provide greater and more diverse
opportunities. It will allow us to unite to provide more direct
membership and program support. Currently, the five councils in
Colorado are working together to realign into a statewide council
that will provide enhanced and improved services to Girl Scouts
throughout Colorado. When completed, we will be 53,000 members
strong.
Even though my degree is in Speech Pathology and Educational Psychology
I have spent the greater part of my life working for Girl Scouts.
I was approached to take a position in Austin, Texas in 1976 and
- as they say - the rest is history. I have applied leadership,
team building, decision making and problem solving skills as a
Camp Director, Marketing and Membership Specialist, Cookie Sale
Manager, Program Director, Management Consultant and CEO. Having
worked on both council and national staff I see opportunities and
challenges from many perspectives. No two days are ever the same!
The best part is the passion of the people you work with - members
of the community, volunteers, staff, and of course, the girls!
So what do Girl Scouts and EWI have in common? The
answer is simple: positive role models for girls. I would be willing
to bet my last box of Girl Scout cookies that 95% of EWI women
were Girl Scouts. Just as our girls gave over 35,230 hours of service
to our community in 2006, you give to the community as well. Each
of you is a positive role model for young girls, and I would encourage
you to mentor a Girl Scout. Some of you prefer
to give your time in a different way - by offering your unique
skills to an organization that will honor and appreciate them.
Others may prefer to make tax-deductible gifts - something that
is always desperately needed. No matter how you choose to make
a difference in a young woman's life, your investment in Girl Scouts
will yield dividends that will endure for generations. |

President's Message ...
A New Year, A New Start!
by Kathy Wallace,
WallaceVISION, LLC |
 |
What does it take to get excited about 2007? What does it
take to get your business, your career, your life started on a
new level? Yes, we all make those new year's resolutions
- and we've
probably broken most of them by now. Changing old habits takes time and
repetition!
We have some inspirational programs coming up which can help! Last
month's panel discussion on dealing with promotion and the media
was great. This month's will be equally motivational and
fun! Check it out.
Talk to some EWI friends and ask them how they are moving ahead
in 2007. The wisdom of friends and mentors can be a great
way to get motivated and moving in a new direction. Pick
a couple of like-minded colleagues and get together on a regular
basis for lunch and progress reports.
There's a time for reflection and planning, and a time for action. Both
are necessary for change, so build time for both into your life,
and you will see a difference.
See you in Feb!

the Gods Rd., between Ace Hardware and Longs Drug in the "In
Motion" wellness and physical therapy studio. Feel free to
stop by and Happy New Year!
Kathy
Wallace honored to have an art ehxibit at the Colorado Springs
Airport, and you are invited out to see it Wed, Jan 31st after
work ( 5:ish
to 7ish...meet in the area or the closest "refreshment establishment")
The exhibit is up in the "Meeters & Greeters" Lounge,
just to the left of the security entrance to the planes., before
you enter the secured area). The exhibit will be up for the first
quarter, 2007, through Mar 31st.
Got Golf?
The golf committee (Ways & Means) is working hard
and doing phenomenally
through January 2007! We are gradually filling up our sponsorship
opportunity levels. To meet the Pepsi/Lane Distributing challenge
all
we need is 34 member firms giving $150 each or 17 golf hole sponsorships
at $300. It's so simple. That's all we need to have Pepsi match
us
with $5,000.00.
We are going to print the "Save The Date" by
the end of January and if
we don't have the sponsorship levels all filled then those levels
will
not have the opportunity to get their company logo on all of the
cards,
posters, and registration forms. We want to show off our member
firms!
BUT.....we need to fill the remaining levels and WE WANT TO DO
THIS WITH
EWI MEMBER FIRMS. We don't want these opportunity levels to be
sponsored by outside firms. We want the advantage to go to EWI
firms.
We want the EWI member firms to have the occasion to showcase their
companies and the EWI member. Please have your company consider
the
value of participation with the following:
* Golf Cart Level, $1000. -- This is a huge level to be able to
advertise your company on each and every golf cart. There will
be
weatherproof signage on 36 golf carts. The EWI member can be there
on
golf day with business cards, business brochures, business give-a-ways,
meeting and greeting all the golfers. It will be great fun! The
corporate/company name will be all over the golf course for hours.
The
business/corporate name will receive recognition the day of the
event,
in The Pulse, our monthly newsletter, in press releases after the
golf
tournament in the Gazette, Colorado Springs Business Journal.
* Putting Challenge, $500 -- This is the most fun way to showcase
your EWI member firm first thing in the morning on golf day as
the
golfers register, buy mulligan's, warm up, etc. The putting green
is
right there by the golf club. We also have really cute and friendly
putting queens floating around assisting with the sale of door
prize
tickets, etc. The EWI member firm can have their company logo right
in
front of the putting green, with your business card, business brochures,
company give-a-ways and you! What a great way to introduce yourself,
your company and EWI! The business/corporate name will receive
recognition the day of the event, in The Pulse, our monthly newsletter,
in press releases after the golf tournament in the Gazette, Colorado
Springs Business Journal.
* Associate Level, $500 -- This is such a simple way to promote
an EWI organization. Business/corporate names will receive recognition
the day of the event, in The Pulse, our monthly newsletter, in
press
releases after the golf tournament in the Gazette, Colorado Springs
Business Journal.
* Lastly, a few more Golf Hole Sponsors, $300 -we are so close
and
need just a few more firms to step up and commit to a golf hole.
* Golf Teams -- The foursomes are filling up fast to play golf
at
the magnificent Kissing Camels Golf Course. We have a limit of
only 72
golfers this year so don't get caught flat-footed and not get your
foursome registered right away.
We need awesome door prizes for the luncheon give-a-way. We want
great
door prizes of beautiful baskets filled with incredible items,
spa
packages, hotel or bed & breakfast stays, and lots of golf-related
items
such as specialty golf clubs, golf balls, golf bags, shirts,
windbreakers, etc. Our intention is to wow! The golfing participants
this year with the door prizes. Please ask around for great prizes
from
any and all of your contacts. That would be a huge help to us!
Tee
Favor items can also be donated for the tee favor bags. We are
looking
for creative items to go into each bag for each of the golfers.
This is
a great way to promote the uniqueness of your company with a specialty
item in a golf bag.
To fulfill our commitment to Executive Women International for
the
funding of ASIST scholarship program and for the EWI Leadership
Conference in Houston (2007), the ways and means committee has
begun
soliciting participation from firms outside the EWI organization.
We
will work diligently to reach our goal of $31,000 (net $15,000)
and fill
the sponsorship levels in any way we can, even though we are seeking
100% participation from EWI member firms. Please consider doing
something for EWI because it also helps you, the community and
our
scholarship recipients!
We continue to offer huge thanks to the ladies on the ways & means
committee (Judy Wilhelm, Kathryn Flobeck, Pat Cooper, Christine
Ressler,
Susan Wilmot, Janet Conover, Jean Roblewsky). They are faithful
and
hardworking! We could not do it without everyone participating.

upcoming meetings and events and membership highlighted. If you

of the month for the following meeting to: Valerie at info@sagewomanherbs.com for
