Spot Light On...

Shirley Wick

Old Town Guest House

OLD TOWN GUESTHOUSE, winner of the Gazette's "2007 Best in the Springs' B&B", is located in the heart of historic Old Colorado City - just half a block from unique boutiques, galleries, shops and several great restaurants.

Don and I look forward to people experiencing our AAA 4 Diamond B&B ( the only one in the Springs), which includes a 3 course plated gourmet breakfast and late afternoon wine/beverages with light appetizers for a relaxing "get-away-from-it-all" in a Private Outdoor Hot Tub Room overlooking Pikes Peak & Garden of the Gods, or a Steam Shower Room with a balcony overlooking Pikes Peak.

From Conferences, to executive strategic planning sessions, weddings, receptions, private Murder Mystery Dinners, or "funny-money" casino nights, we take care of all the details for you.

Our B&B is a new venture for both of us.  Don worked for Unisys for 37 years (in computers) and I have been in the legal world since I was 18, and owned my Freelance Probate Paralegal firm for over 22 years.  Don and I moved here from Minnesota for the great climate and eventually to retire - when we grow up!  We have 2 sons - our oldest son, Matt, lives in Denver with his wife, Kim, and our youngest son, Jeff, lives in St. Paul with his wife, Jenn.  Our youngest recently blessed us with our first grandbaby boy born (nearly 4 weeks early) on Don's birthday in late April.  Matthew Lee is doing just fine, and even paid us a visit over the 4th of July.

After experiencing the many dynamic and enjoyable women at a couple of EWI meetings, I decided to join.   What I like most is that EWI promotes both personal/professional development, and encourages community participation.  Being new to the Springs, I look forward to cultivating new long-term friendships in an organization which fosters leadership and individual growth

President's Message ...

Get the BIG Picture at LCAM!

by Kathy Wallace, WallaceVISION, LLC

As you know, LCAM (Leadership Conference & Annual Meeting), EWI's national convention is coming up soon in September.  We have worked hard to be able to send more members to the conference in Houston this year, so check you schedule and get your LCAM application in to me by Aug 1!!!

Dates are Sept 27 to 29, and the training will be fabulous.  Their world class training sessions will benefit you in your professional life, and you will have a chance to see the BIG picture of EWI.  We are part of a national network of business women, and it is a powerful feeling to see and be a part of that.

So check it out!  Not only is it instructive, but it is FUN!  We look forward to having you join us at LCAM this year - and taking your awareness to the next level!

***** Nominating Committee News ******

From the EWI Nominating Committee - some breaking news:

At the last board meeting we got some unfortunate news that our incoming President-Elect Donna Berty, from Select Long Term Care, will be resigning her position with her company effective in August for personal reasons. She will be taking time off from the working world to concentrate on family matters. Therefore she will be unable to serve as our President for the 2007-2008 Board year.

We are searching for a replacement for Donna Berty as President-Elect. If you have any desire to step into that role please contact me or Kathy Wallace (the current President).

Donna, we wish you the best - much love to you! We look forward to you coming back to us when you can!!!

Got Golf?

Look To The Future! ……

Ways & Means Committee Report

Susan Davis and Donna Berty would like to once again thank all those ladies responsible for this year's very successful Golf Tournament at the Kissing Camels Golf Club in June. We were able to raise over $20,000 to supplement our scholarship fund for non-traditional students.

The nominating committee is beginning to seek the next Ways and Means Committee chairpersons and they will need your continued support as they begin to plan for the 6th Annual Scholastic Classic.

We know you will offer them the same if not greater assistance as you have in the past. All members of EWI need to help continue to build for our future scholarship program through fundraising which promotes the mission of EWI for community involvement and promotion of women through scholarships!

July Meeting

For the July EWI chapter meeting, professional speaker, Bob Adelmann, gave an interactive presentation on how to get the "butterflies flying in formation’" as we speak in front of groups large or small. He reminded us that telling stories are the best ways to entertain our listeners and make our points. The food at The Fire Rock Grill was great and EWI got to be part of the grand opening evening as the restaurant reinvents itself.
