President Pat Cooper
Wallace Vision

September is a transitional and exciting time for EWI.  We are in the midst of activities preparing for Board transition and training in addition to planning for LCAM in late September.  Along with hanging on to the last warm days of summer and many summer activities that are ending; how about that program last month at Whole Foods.  A huge Thank you to the coordinators Beth Alexander, Kathy Wallace and all the helpers involved in making that a memorable evening.  We should all live to 100 years of age with all the educational materials provided and availability of healthy food.

After a summer season of light uplifting programs, we will start our Fall season with a little more structure to our programs (see our program schedule below).

Last month I mentioned some Fall planning items for consideration. This month I wish to express my sincere gratitude to those who served our Chapter this past year and especially our 2008-2009 Board members.  Moreover, a huge thank you to those that have stepped forward to serve in the coming year.  It has been a rewarding year of learning for me and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to serve you. Please remember Mission P.A.T.  (Possibilities - Analyze - Take Action); our Chapter is what we make it…and we have some very dynamic spirited women to lead us forward…….

We will be asking for volunteers from our membership with special financial skills to help with the Financial Sessions that will be offered to our youth.  EWI strives to give back to the CS Community and being a part of a young person’s life in developing strong financial skills is a great way to make a difference.  The format for our program will be similar to last year’s program.  We will be soliciting member participation in September.  This event hosted by Pat Cooper with WallaceVision and Audrey Shrive with Aflac Insurance.  Call Pat at 963-9249 to be a part of this program.

    November
    When:    November 11, 2009 5:30 p.m.
We are looking forward to our November meeting where Office Lori Torrini from the Sand Creek Police Department will discuss identify theft and fraud prevention and Eric LaLone of the Defense Institute will discuss self-defense.  Be ready to leave your suits at home as Eric will ask a few of us to participate.
Here is an opportunity to make some changes in Programs for Next Year! December

    Where:       Broadmoor Hotel
Program:  Annual Holiday Extravaganza at the Broadmoor Hotel.  This event hosted by Brandy Merriam with Presidential Brokerage, Linda Williamson with The Broadmoor, Susan Davis with Wells Fargo Bank.  Also looking for additional volunteers to help with the program.
I am looking for feedback on the following things:    -Suggestions on speakers (ie topics that are helpful and interesting for you)    -Suggestions on locations (would any of our member firms want to host an event)    -Suggestions on topics (which c --connections, community, careers) and tied that into  a topic would you love to hear more about.        How have you felt about the last year's Programs?      Where can we be better?    What event was your favorite and why?    What event was the most helpful and how?    What section of town do you prefer the meetings to be held (Northwest, Northeast, Central, Southwest, Southeast)? Can you spend time making a few phone calls or even helping organizing a meeting?  Then sign up for the Programs Committee by emailing me. The responses need to be back to me by Sept 2nd 9am.

    Ways and Means:

Hello Ladies,THANK YOU to each of you for making this year’s golf tournament such a success (and great fun)!!  Our fund-raising goal was $15,000 & we exceeded that goal by about $2,000.  What fabulous results, especially considering our current economy.  And how wonderful to know that we are using this money to help women much less fortunate than ourselves!  As a result of this great effort,  EWI will be adding another scholarship recipient.  It is wonderful to see everyone’s hard work pay off in such a rewarding way!  So…after a little R & R, we are ready to start gearing up for NEXT YEAR’S tournament, which will be on Friday, June 4.  We want to get a headstart on talking to larger companies that will soon be planning their 2010 budgets.  Please consider who you might talk to about sponsoring next year’s tournament.     If you have a suggestion, but prefer not to approach them yourself, please just send us the person/business information & we will gladly contact them.We are also looking for volunteers for Ways & Means.  The more women involved, the easier it will be to plan & execute another successful tournament.  Please consider helping – loads of fun & hugely rewarding.

    Thanks!
    Mary-Good Forsythe  & Elva Munoz

    Meeting Summary

    Reaping the Harvest

Last month EWIs enjoyed a wonderful evening at - surprise - Whole Foods on Powers, organized by Beth Alexander, Janeene Young and Kathy Wallace.  The theme was Reaping the Harvest: Food and Wine.

Janeene Young started the evening off with a selection of wines paired with a cabrese salad and fruits.   Chef  Everton concocted a fabulous dinner of prime rib or salmon, both prepared with sauces containing the wines we had with dinner.  Dessert was a selection of chocolate or raspberry mousse cups and there was a special birthday cake for the August birthday girls!

A presentation was made about a special EWI wine trip next year to Washington state and Oregon to sample area wines with Janeene as our sommelier.   In addition, we were serenaded by Brandon on guitar, and caricature portraits were drawn at no charge for any interested EWIs.  Whole Foods staff gave us virtual value tours of the store - how to shop organically and economically at the same time.  The weather was beautiful and everyone had a great time.
