While working in Albuquerque, NM for Dex, the yellow pages
publisher, I was invited to join EWI in 1997 by Donna Bowman, who
was our company's primary (and only) member.Donna was a field representative and did a lot of travel, so
it was understood that because I worked in town, I'd be able to make
the meetings she missed, and we'd have 100% participation for our
company. As it turned out, I enjoyed
participating so much on the Programs committee, that even when
Donna was in town and available, we would both be in
attendance.In mid 1999, I received a promotion
and was moved to Durango, CO, so my association with EWI came to an
end without a nearby chapter. Then, in mid 2001,
another promotion moved me to Colorado Springs.Initially, I tried to locate the chapter here, but was
unsuccessful, and as the years waned on, I became consumed with my
career and the 4 to 6 months of out of town travel it required each
year.
After taking an early retirement from DEX at the beginning of
2008, I became (and remain) a realtor® at ERA Shields and also
became more involved as a consultant to my husband's business, The
Harloff Company. And one day, a google search led
me back to EWI.I was excited to find a Colorado
Springs Chapter, and boldly invited myself to attend a meeting
during the summer of 2009.
The Springs chapter consists of an exceptional group of
intelligent, successful and thoughtful individuals.I find a new friend at every meeting and am fortunate to be
associated with all of you.I'm currently serving
on the membership committee and am looking forward to future
projects.
The Harloff Company is a specialty manufacturing company that has
been a part of the Colorado Springs community since 1951.
Our family purchased the business in 1986, and my
husband, John serves as the President. The
Harloff Company currently employs about 50 people
locally.Our market is world
wide.We provide solutions for storage, security,
and transportation needs of essential items and produce a line of
‘carts' for this purpose. You can learn
more about us at:www.harloff.com.
President's Message
President Audrey Shrive Aflac Insurance
The wind is howling outside as I write this month's
message. Springtime in the Rockies can be a little rough! But
the summers, falls, and winters are well worth it in my book.
Springtime for EWI means the membership renewal activity is
complete and we're focusing on growing the membership. It
means the golf tournament...the crown jewel of the Ways and
Means Committee...is just weeks away! AND, it also means the
Nominating Committee, with Chairwoman Pat Cooper of Wallace
Vision at its helm, is in full swing putting together the
2010/2011 board.
When I joined EWI almost four years ago, countless women
advised me that the best way to make the most of the
experience was to get involved. I began by organizing a couple
monthly programs, held the publicity position and then was
tapped for President-Elect. Never for one moment have I
regretted my choice to give of my time. Friendships have been
forged that I would not have had, were it not for my
involvement. Experiences have been shared that are unique to
EWI, and my life would have been less somehow, had I not had
those experiences.
So this is your opportunity to grow, to share, and to make
a difference. The nominating committee will begin meeting next
week. If there is a particular committee or chair position you
are interested in, please contact Pat Cooper. We really
encourage co-chair positions in many of the board positions.
As you know, many hands make light work!
So step up, step out, and volunteer for something. EWI
wants YOU!!!

Should you need to cancel your reservation by the Friday

reserved for you.
List of Upcoming Programs:

Surgery
Meeting requirements and RSVP Everyone
must RSVP Yes or No. No later
than May 7th, 2010 EWI Program
Coordinators must confirm attendance numbers with the hotel or
other catering company in advance.
No shows are charged -- we need to have timely
RSVPs into the Sergeant-at-Arms the Friday before the
monthly meeting which is the second Wednesday of each month.
It costs EWI to pay for those that RSVP and don’t show.
Once our numbers are confirmed with the hotel or other
catering company, any no shows and any late cancellations
must be charged in full.
EWI is required to pay for all of its registered
guests, whether or not they attend.
Should you need to cancel your reservation by
the Friday before the meeting, you MUST receive a confirming
email from the SAA that your cancellation is received.
If you do not get a confirming email from SAA, your
reservation is still in effect and you will need to pay for
the dinner that was reserved for you.
SERGEANT AT ARMS
RSVP and REGRETS FOR CHAPTER MEETINGS: In an
effort to make the thankless job of Sergeant at Arms a little
easier, we thought we would explain in detail the proper RSVP
procedure for the chapter meetings. It has become evident that
there is a great deal of confusion regarding this matter. We
hope this will clear it up for you! If you have any questions,
please contact Terri Flores Brown or Deb Haar, your current
Sergeant at Arms team. Thank you to all who regularly RSVP on
or before the deadline each month! You are so appreciated!
Please remember that the deadline requirement for
RSVP/REGRETS is the Friday prior to the monthly chapter
meeting. The chapter meeting is held on the second Wednesday
of each month. (Except for the month of June. The golf
tournament lunch serves as the monthly meeting and is
typically the first Friday of June).
Members who do not
RSVP by the deadline create a snowball effect for the Sergeant
At Arms, the programs team, the caterer, and often the venue.
With some programs the meal issue can be problematic if the
adjustments are too dramatic. In some cases board members have
offered to forfeit their meal if it came to that. We've come
close but luckily haven't had to resort to that. Going forward
we can not guarantee a meal for those who RSVP after the
deadline or for walk-ins with no RSVP.
The sooner we
can get your information; even if it's only the RSVP/REGRETS
e-mail, it is extremely helpful and appreciated. You can wait
to pay at the meeting. So, just because you RSVP doesn't mean
you have to make your payment at the same time.
If you
are a member paying for a guest, remember to ensure you've
paid the $40 fee and not the $35 fee when you receive your
confirmation, if it's short please be prepared to pay the
difference at the door as we will mention it to you!
If
an RSVP is made and not cancelled by the Friday before the
meeting the member can be charged for the event.
We
will continue to send out the roster for your review and
feedback as there are times we have missed the information you
submitted online. Thank you for reviewing the roster and
responding. This has been very helpful to us!
Please remember to go online to http://www.springsewi.com/
and submit your RSVP or your Regrets. You may pay online if
you like (this helps us tremendously too). Please
remember to do so NO LATER than the Friday prior to the
meeting.

Hello Ladies!
Our 8th Annual Golf Tournament is on Friday, June
4th.
We need 100% participation from our EWI members, so please
think about how you would like to be
involved. We are very short on Hole
Sponsors ($300), so perhaps your company could get involved at
that level.
Lorrie Todd has our EWI website updated
with all information for the June 4 tournament, including the
Golf Registration form, so you can go online, register &
pay.
Save-the-Date cards will be
mailed out in early April.Send us names of
any golfers you would like included in the mailing.
Elva is heading up the Silent Auction and we are very
excited about the possibilities this offers! If you would like to work with her on this committee,
let us know. Please help us in obtaining
donations for this.We will still be
awarding door prizes, but a Silent Auction has the potential
to generate even more income at the golf tournament.
We look forward to hearing from you! Mary-Good

WOMAN ENTREPENEUR, inventor, patent holder of CamilyWand
TM, a cleaning tool, wins BEST TECHNICAL INNOVATION Award from
the Window Covering Manufacturers Association Colorado
Springs, CO.
CamilyWandTM won the 2010 Best Technical Innovation Award
in the Miscellaneous Category from the WCMA (Window Covering
Manufacturers Association). The award will be presented
to Lynn in Atlanta, GA on May 12, 2010 at the Vision10
Expo.
Invented as a cleaning tool for removing bugs
from blinds like Silhouettes, CamilyWandTM has far reaching
applications. It removes cobwebs from ceilings, fans,
lighting fixtures, and retrieves papers and small objects from
inaccessible places. CamilyWandTM is an extension pole
with a sticky CamilyTip, which attaches to the offensive bug
or debris, making removal or retrieval easy. The
CamilyTip is removable, washable, and reusable.
The
WCMA Product Awards recognizes the industry's most innovative
new products and ideas in a variety of categories. The winners
will be honored during the reception in Atlanta. "Every
manufacturer, engineer, designer, and marketing team deserves
to be lauded for their contributions to the window coverings
industry in 2010," said Ralph Vasami, executive director of
WCMA. "WCMA proudly recognizes these companies for their
achievements during this past year's tough economic
climate."
Lynn is an interior designer in
Colorado Springs, in practice since 1971. She is active
in many organizations and has adult children. For more
information on CamilyWandTM, go to http://www.camilywand.com/,

Meeting Summary
April Meeting
Summary
Our April meeting "The Fabulous Spring Fashion Show" was
Fabulous!
The Fine Arts Center was a great place to hold such an
exciting event. The evening started with cocktails in the Deco
lounge, then a delectable feast provided by Heather at Food
Designers and a goodie bag from Mary at Sweet Celebrations to
take home. A short meeting was held before we had a fun
time enjoying the fantastic EWI models in their lovely spring
fashions. Hair and makeup was provided by The Paul
Mitchell School and eyewear was supplied by Kathy Kelly at
Optech Eyewear.
The models from our EWI membership
were: Kay Atwood-Hypnosis For Life; Linda Williamson-The
Broadmoor; Lorrie Todd-Page Café; Jayme Holligan-Colorado Tech
University; Jeanine Giem-Springs Funeral Services; Debora
Mallouk-Colorado Springs Country Club; Cindy Stermitz-Mountain
States Plumbing; Pat Cooper-Wallace Vision; Beth
Alexander-Cachet Baskets; and Christine Jancsy.-Pepsi
Co. Ladies, you were so wonderful and you made the
clothes look fabulous. We had quite a few guests and the
responses we received have been very positive.
The
retailers who did such a great job on the wonderful spring
outfits are Regina's Boutique, White House Black Market, and
David's Bridal. They were also kind enough to
donate 10% of all sales to our scholarship fund - just let
them know you are EWI members or guests from the fashion show
when you shop in their stores. Keep a lookout for a
feature from Debbie Baker in the Woodmen/Cheyenne Edition
Newspaper.
A special thanks to Susan Davis,
Wells Fargo Bank; Brandy Merriam, Ameriprise Financial; and
Heather Darrigan, Food Designers (who has been a fashion show
director for years) who helped with getting the show to run so
smoothly.Thank you to everyone who so
graciously helped with making this show FABULOUS! It was
a fun-filled evening.
