President's Message
President Carol Bryant
April is the beginning of spring time…..The time of newness and growth.
What an informative and interesting program we had at the Colorado Springs Country Club this last month. We learned about Memorial Hospital going for profit or non profit. Our community is now trying to decide how the hospital will best benefit Colorado Springs. Then we learned some information about the pros and cons of medical marijuana and how the marijuana issue will affect all aspects of our community. There was a lot of information given and the response from our membership at the meeting was very positive.
Our times are changing and we are trying to constantly move in a positive forward motion. The same goes for our organization and how we are trying to make changes that will make us strive and reach our potential in our 3 C’s - community, career and connections. We have voted on and passed, our new By Laws, which are more current and closer to what they are doing at the corporate level. Let’s continue to learn and grow for Executive Women International so we can reach our potential and know we are part of a great group of women who want to consistently be at our best.

PROGRAMS COMMITTEE: Meeting requirements and RSVP
Everyone must RSVP Yes or No. No later than April 8th, 2011 EWI Program Coordinators must confirm attendance numbers with the hotel or other catering company in advance.
No shows are charged -- we need to have timely RSVPs into the Sergeant-at-Arms the Friday before the monthly meeting which is the second Wednesday of each month.
It costs EWI to pay for those that RSVP and don’t show. Once our numbers are confirmed with the hotel or other catering company, any no shows and any late cancellations must be charged in full.
EWI is required to pay for all of its registered guests, whether or not they attend.
Should you need to cancel your reservation by the Friday before the meeting, you MUST receive a confirming email from the SAA that your cancellation is received. If you do not get a confirming email from SAA, your reservation is still in effect and you will need to pay for the dinner that was reserved for you.
SERGEANT AT ARMS (SAA):
RSVP and REGRETS FOR CHAPTER MEETINGS:
In an effort to make the thankless job of Sergeant at Arms a little easier, we thought we would explain in detail the proper RSVP procedure for the chapter meetings. It has become evident that there is a great deal of confusion regarding this matter. We hope this will clear it up for you! If you have any questions, please contact Terri Flores Brown or Deb Haar, your current Sergeant at Arms team. Thank you to all who regularly RSVP on or before the deadline each month! You are so appreciated!
Please remember that the deadline requirement for RSVP/REGRETS is the Friday prior to the monthly chapter meeting. The chapter meeting is held on the second Wednesday of each month. (Except for the month of June. The golf tournament lunch serves as the monthly meeting and is typically the first Friday of June).
Members who do not RSVP by the deadline create a snowball effect for the Sergeant At Arms, the programs team, the caterer, and often the venue. With some programs the meal issue can be problematic if the adjustments are too dramatic. In some cases board members have offered to forfeit their meal if it came to that. We've come close but luckily haven't had to resort to that. Going forward we can not guarantee a meal for those who RSVP after the deadline or for walk-ins with no RSVP.
The sooner we can get your information; even if it's only the RSVP/REGRETS e-mail, it is extremely helpful and appreciated. You can wait to pay at the meeting. So, just because you RSVP doesn't mean you have to make your payment at the same time.
If you are a member paying for a guest, remember to ensure you've paid the $40 fee and not the $35 fee when you receive your confirmation, if it's short please be prepared to pay the difference at the door as we will mention it to you!
If an RSVP is made and not cancelled by the Friday before the meeting the member can be charged for the event.
We will continue to send out the roster for your review and feedback as there are times we have missed the information you submitted online. Thank you for reviewing the roster and responding. This has been very helpful to us!
Please remember to go online to http://www.springsewi.com/ and submit your RSVP or your Regrets. You may pay online if you like (this helps us tremendously too). Please remember to do so NO LATER than the Friday prior to the meeting.
WAYS & MEANS COMMITTEE:
Tee Time!!
The reason the pro tells you to keep your head down is so you can't see him laughing. Phyllis Diller
Our 9th Annual Golf Tournament is Friday, June 3rd.
Hello Ladies!
We have changed our Ways & Means meeting dates to the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 5:30PM at The Springs Funeral Services so that more of you can attend. So please join us if you can> We would love your participation and feedback
For the newer members, our golf tournament is our major fundraiser for the scholarship fund we sponsor to assist women in transition with their college tuition. We currently have 4 amazing women benefiting from the EWI generosity and hard work each year.
Our goal is to raise $20,000, so we have lots of work to do! We currently have a $1,000 sponsorship commitment from Pepsi and a $1000 sponsorship commitment from Office Now/Adam Way Financial.
We are looking for 100% participation from our EWI members, so please think about how you would like to be involved – in ways big and small. (Thank you all for your e-mails pledging support!) If each of you would take at least 1 sponsorship packet and share the opportunity with a business vendor or someone you know that might be willing to provide a sponsorship, we should be able to make our goal. We will have packets at each meeting or you can get them from Terri Flores-Brown or Mary Good.
At the next monthly EWI meeting we will have sign up sheets for sponsorships ranging from $50 to $5000, donations for our tee-bags (we need snacks, promo items, beverages) Silent Auction & Door Prize Donations. Ways & Means memers will be available to answer questions about how you can help this year!
A special thank you to Enchanted Signs for donating signs for the event, Woodford Manufacturing for donating postage, we have auction/door prize commitments from Kissing Camels, Genesis MedSpa, Obrien’s Carpet/Rug Décor & The Springs Funeral Services, Steaksmith, Colorado Springs Country Club, Pueblo Country Club & more.
We look forward to hearing from you!

EWI Corporate has challenged all chapters this year with new membership goals -- Suggested MINIMUM goals are 90% retention and 11 new member firms. That is almost 1 per month! We are already 90 days into our fiscal year. Please help us succeed in this goal. Growing our membership benefits the backbone of our chapter as well as our individual members and their firms. If each one of us brings in one new member firm this year we will have successfully enhanced our own networking path and strengthened our ties to the EWI initiatives of Careers, Communities and Connections. Please invite prospective members to the Chapter meetings. Retain ~ Recruit ~ Grow -- We are off to a great start for the new year! Thank you for your referrals - keep them coming! Meeting Summary
March Meeting Summary:
Submitted by:Audrey Shrive; AFLAC
EWI March Meeting Summary
It might have been a small taste of March Madness at the Chapter Meeting on the ninth. The program committee tackled some controversial topics affecting Colorado Springs.
Jim Moore, Vic Chair and Chair-Elect, of the Memorial Health System Board of Trustees spoke regarding the issues surrounding Memorial’s Hospital possible change of ownership. There is much debate on whether the hospital should be continue to be run by the city of Colorado Springs, converted to a non-profit, or sold to a for profit entity.
We also had two speakers on the medical marijuana issue. Ken Lippincott, spoke against the continued legalization of medical marijuana. Ken recently chaired the “Yes on 2G” ballot issue committee in Fountain, CO and in El Paso County. Dave Newman, part owner of The Healthy Connections, a medical marijuana dispensary, spoke for the merits of the drug.
The three speakers fielded several questions from the chapter members after their presentations. The debate was lively and informative! Thanks to each of our panelists who to graciously imparted their knowledge and beliefs to EWI.
