Colorado Springs Country Club

Debora Mallouk

Debora Mallouk made a career move to Colorado Springs in February 2008 to develop a new membership and marketing department for the beautiful Colorado Springs Country Club. With over twenty years in the private club business, including corporate-owned clubs, development-owned clubs and entertainment venues, Debora decided to master a new challenge by developing a marketing department in a “member-owned” country club.

Prior to her move to Colorado, Debora was Director of The Speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway located in Fort Worth, Texas. Still an avid race fan, you can find Debora watching the Fall NASCAR championship races each Sunday at home with friends.

A prior Board Member of CASA of Denton County, Debora is inspired by the dedication of the many advocates protecting our nation’s children through countless hours of volunteerism in difficult family settings.

Debora has three adult children and two grandchildren, Brianna 15 years old and Sammy 10 years old. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren in Texas, interior design and creative writing.

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it. ~Michelangelo

President's Message

President Carol Bryant
Stanley Steamer

Happy October, I have been very blessed to have been able to enjoy living in this state of Colorado. The leaves are changing and we have such a wonderful fall season here in the Rocky Mountains.

One of my blessings is Executive Women International and the women that belong to this organization. I look at the women who have come before us to pave the way for the women of today. Women like Lucille Ball and Ethel Mertz, strong women who found out that when you stand together you can accomplish anything and have a great time doing it. This is what I see in EWI! We are helping to change the lives of four women through our scholarship program and that is only a part of what we do. We help each other so we can become stronger, more colorful, dynamic women.

Have a great fall and remember to join a committee to get to know each other better and have a great year of accomplishments! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be able to be a part of this.

Meeting requirements and RSVP

Everyone must RSVP Yes or No. No later than October 8th, 2010
EWI Program Coordinators must confirm attendance numbers with the hotel or other catering company in advance.

  • No shows are charged -- we need to have timely RSVPs into the Sergeant-at-Arms the Friday before the monthly meeting which is the second Wednesday of each month.

  • It costs EWI to pay for those that RSVP and don’t show. Once our numbers are confirmed with the hotel or other catering company, any no shows and any late cancellations must be charged in full.

  • EWI is required to pay for all of its registered guests, whether or not they attend.

Should you need to cancel your reservation by the Friday before the meeting, you MUST receive a confirming email from the SAA that your cancellation is received.  If you do not get a confirming email from SAA, your reservation is still in effect and you will need to pay for the dinner that was reserved for you.

Sergeant At Arms (SAA):

RSVP and REGRETS FOR CHAPTER MEETINGS:
In an effort to make the thankless job of Sergeant at Arms a little easier, we thought we would explain in detail the proper RSVP procedure for the chapter meetings. It has become evident that there is a great deal of confusion regarding this matter. We hope this will clear it up for you! If you have any questions, please contact Terri Flores Brown or Deb Haar, your current Sergeant at Arms team. Thank you to all who regularly RSVP on or before the deadline each month! You are so appreciated!

Please remember that the deadline requirement for RSVP/REGRETS is the Friday prior to the monthly chapter meeting. The chapter meeting is held on the second Wednesday of each month. (Except for the month of June. The golf tournament lunch serves as the monthly meeting and is typically the first Friday of June).

Members who do not RSVP by the deadline create a snowball effect for the Sergeant At Arms, the programs team, the caterer, and often the venue. With some programs the meal issue can be problematic if the adjustments are too dramatic. In some cases board members have offered to forfeit their meal if it came to that. We've come close but luckily haven't had to resort to that. Going forward we can not guarantee a meal for those who RSVP after the deadline or for walk-ins with no RSVP.

The sooner we can get your information; even if it's only the RSVP/REGRETS e-mail, it is extremely helpful and appreciated. You can wait to pay at the meeting. So, just because you RSVP doesn't mean you have to make your payment at the same time.

If you are a member paying for a guest, remember to ensure you've paid the $40 fee and not the $35 fee when you receive your confirmation, if it's short please be prepared to pay the difference at the door as we will mention it to you!

If an RSVP is made and not cancelled by the Friday before the meeting the member can be charged for the event.

We will continue to send out the roster for your review and feedback as there are times we have missed the information you submitted online. Thank you for reviewing the roster and responding. This has been very helpful to us!

Please remember to go online to http://www.springsewi.com/ and submit your RSVP or your Regrets. You may pay online if you like (this helps us tremendously too).  Please remember to do so NO LATER than the Friday prior to the meeting.

Ways & Means Needs you!

We are looking for committee members to assist us with organizing our scholarship fundraiser, the annual Golf Tournament held at Kissing Camels.

We will have monthly meetings until January at which time we start in high gear bringing the event together. Please see Mary Good or Terri and give them your contact info to notify you of the upcoming meetings.

Keep in mind that even the tiniest bit of help is appreciated so please sign up and we will keep your availability in mind when asking for help.

It’s never too early to start collecting items for the Silent Auction, Door Prizes and of course the very important sponsorships. We have the space to store non-perishable items so feel free to gather items now and we can secure them until the tournament.

Save the date for the golf tournament, June 3, 2011.

Scholarship Committee:

EWI continues to support 4 ladies with scholarship funds.  The latest amazing news is from our most recent recipient Melissa Moffett:

"I have told you my oldest is extremely gifted...well they actually tested her last week and she is in the top 99th percentile in the state of Colorado for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. They stopped testing her at 5th grade level.

I am meeting with the school board tomorrow night and they will be moving her out of second grade and into third grade.  I was not comfortable with moving her two full grades; however, I am extremely proud :) She also will start the gifted classes at UCCS again here in the next few weeks and they will be putting her with a specialist in Cheyenne district.  The principal said in her 27 years they have never seen a child test this high and that do not even know what to really do with her.  Good thing I am about to graduate as she could have a bachelors at 18 if she keeps going in this direction."

If anyone is interested with helping on the committee:

Meeting Summary

September Meeting Summary:

The September EWI meeting, which focused on Social Media, got off to a social start with a networking game that mixed up the membership and landed ladies at Facebook, Twitter or Linkedin tables!  During dinner, the gals worked together in teams to answer questions that tested their social media prowess.  The winners (a sly group of ladies sitting way in the back) happily took away 10 oz. bags of Goodwill's special blend of roasted coffee.

Member Lorrie Todd and husband Allan, co-owners of Pagecafe Internet Consulting, Inc. an Internet solutions company established in 1997, addressed the group.  Their presentation offered an uncomplicated overview of Social Media - specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin -- and ways individual members could utilize these avenues to communicate, find products, and choose companies to do business.  More over, Allan and Lorrie focused on Social Media as a means to help EWI ladies promote themselves and their businesses.  And without delving too much into the "dark side" of Social Media, Allan explained the pitfalls of each media.  The long and the short of it - Social Media is social - it takes time and energy.  But, hey, aren't you worth it!

Corporate Update

LCAM Update:

Hello Ladies,

Just got back from my 1st LCAM and can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it was!  First, it was such fun to spend 5 days with others from our chapter - great to get to know these women better!  In case you don't know, we have some fabulous, fun (also: smart, energetic, creative) women in EWI!!  Second, this conference gave me a view of the "Big Picture" of EWI.  To see over 400 women from all over our country gather together to learn more about leadership, communication, fund-raising, philanthropy and enriching our communities was very exciting.  I was tremendously impressed with this organization and consider it a privilege to be a part of it!  More than ever, I want to contribute my time & energy to help our chapter grow, become more visible in Colorado Springs & continue to change the lives of women around us.
