Jayme Holligan

Colorado Technical University

Are you looking to turn a new leaf or further your skill set through education? In 1965, Colorado Technical University was established in Colorado Springs. The University has expanded to six campuses as well as the online division with a total of approximately 31,000 students. Aside from Colorado Springs, there are two campuses in Denver, one in Pueblo, Kansas City, and Sioux Falls. CTU offers Associates to Doctorate degree programs in five areas of study: The College of Health Sciences, Criminal and Public Administration, Business and Management, Engineering, Computer Science, and Information Systems and Technology. Be sure to check out http://www.coloradotech.edu/ to learn more about how to get your degree started and further your career.

In June 2009, Jayme Holligan became an Admissions Advisor at the Colorado Technical University in Colorado Springs. Her role is to help students select a degree program and enroll in school. She finds it very rewarding to impact the lives of individuals who want to better themselves. Before starting as an Admissions Advisor, Jayme worked for seven years as a Staffing Manager at ADD STAFF, Inc. The staffing industry enabled Jayme to obtain inside and outside sales skills as well as community relations experience.

Jayme was born and raised in Colorado Springs, attended Palmer High School, and was an active member of the National Charity League.  She obtained a B.S. degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Advertising from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Jayme was selected for the College Program internship at Disney World in Orlando which allowed her to learn the principles of customer service that she still applies to her current position.  After graduating, she worked as an Account Coordinator for Cramer-Krasselt which is an advertising agency in Orlando.  Working in advertising was fascinating, but she realized that her passion was connecting with people.  Jayme decided to move back to Colorado Springs and settle in to the business community where she still works today. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and playing tennis.

Aside from EWI, Jayme is a board member of CommonWorks, a non-profit that provides support to adults with developmental disabilities, at risk-youth, as well as foster care and adoption services. She is involved with Leadership Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs Young Professionals, and Pastoral Council at St. Patrick's Church. Jayme is a 2008 Leadership Pikes Peak graduate and received the 2009 Colorado Springs Business Journal "Rising Star" award.

Jayme truly enjoys the fellowship and professional development opportunities that EWI has to offer. She is thrilled to surround herself with the dynamic women in our local chapter.

President's Message

President Audrey Shrive
Aflac Insurance

Hats Off to Brandi Merriam, Susan Davis and their team for pulling off one of the most fun EWI chapter meetings. The March Murder Mystery Dinner is one for the record books! Nicely done ladies!!

The April meeting promises to be another spectacular event. Please plan to bring a guest to the "No Foolin' Fashion Show" at the Fine Arts Center on April 14th. As I have visited other networking events around the community, I'm reminded that EWI has two things that most other groups don't have: an opportunity for some of the best leadership training available to women, and really amazing programs month after month. Increasing our membership is always a goal and the ONLY way to do that is to bring prospective members. I urge you to put some thought into who you might invite and bring them along!

Another way to get people involved with EWI is through the golf tournament. June will be here before you know it!! The Ways and Means committee has done an outstanding job in securing some large donors for the tournament. At this time, they are pretty short in the smaller categories of hole and cart sponsorships. A full hole sponsorship is $300, half hole is $150 and carts are only $50. Please consider who among your circle of friends and clients might be able to help support our scholarship funds in this manner. I know the Ways and Means committee will take the money, no matter what the check size!

One last note...congratulations to Deb Haar for winning the donated ticket to the Disney Institute on March 23, 2010! We raised $120 for our scholarship fund through that drawing. Also, the board voted to send our incoming President, Carol Bryant, to the seminar as well. We're looking forward to a full report of all they learned at our next meeting. Until then, make it a great one!

    Ways & Means Committee Report

    Hello Ladies!

Our 8th Annual Golf Tournament is on Friday, June 4th.

To date, we have 5 major sponsors:

    Re/Max Properties - Ray Shea - $4000
    Re/Max Properties - Bill & Mary-Good Forsythe - $2000
    Re/Max Properties - Mike Jensen - $1000
    Sinton Dairy - $1000
    Wells Fargo - $1000

We need 100% participation from our EWI members, so please think about how you would like to be involved.  We are very short on Hole Sponsors ($300), so perhaps your company could get involved at that level.

Lorrie Todd has our EWI website updated with all information for the June 4 tournament, including the Golf Registration form, so you can go online, register & pay.

Save-the-Date cards will be mailed out in early April.  Send us names of any golfers you would like included in the mailing.

Elva is heading up the Silent Auction and we are very excited about the possibilities this offers!  If you would like to work with her on this committee, let us know.  Please help us in obtaining donations for this.  We will still be awarding door prizes, but a Silent Auction has the potential to generate even more income at the golf tournament.

We look forward to hearing from you!

    Other news from our members:

Cell Phones for Soldiers and The Springs Funeral Services

More than 150,000 troops are serving overseas and are away from their families. Cell Phones for Soldiers and The Springs Funeral Services are calling on all Americans to support for these brave men and women by donating your unused cell phones. Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect over 50,000 cell phones this year to help keep troops connected with their families.

"Over the past few years, we have been amazed by the generosity of others. But, we have also seen the need to support our troops continue." says Brittany Bergquist, "Cell Phones for Soldiers" co-founder. "It is easy for Americans to make a small sacrifice of support by donating their unused cell phones, and providing families with a much-needed connection to their loved ones overseas."

Local residents can support the collection drive by donating their phones at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80909, 719-328-1793

"We're proud to show our support for U.S. soldiers, and to contribute to a worthy cause like Cell Phones for Soliders," says Terri Flores-Brown, co-owner of The Springs Funeral Services.

    About Cell Phones for Soldiers:

"Cell Phones for Soldiers" was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist of Norwell, Mass. After reading a story about a soldier who ran up a huge phone bill calling home from Iraq, these two teenagers decided to help out.  They started by opening an account with $21.00 of their own money.  Since then, the registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization has raised almost $1 million in donations and distributed more than 500,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas. They are collecting cash donations and old cell phones.  The cell phones are recycled for cash and the proceeds are used to buy prepaid calling cards for our soldiers serving in the Middle East.

Cell Phones For Soldiers is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  The goal is to provide every US soldier with a way to call home for free.  For more information, please visit http://www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com/

    Meeting Summary

    March Meeting Summary

    March Madness - Deadly Deceptions

Who has more fun than us?

The March meeting for EWI was less informative and a whole lot-o-fun instead.  EWI members and guests arrived and were greeted by the "House Detective" who informed us he had been hired by EWI to look into some suspicious activities that had been occurring lately.

"Detective Dick" took immediate charge of the investigation.  He questioned everyone on the scene, as "no-one was above suspicion".  The chase was on!  The finger pointing was heightened by Cathie John (Transitional Member) warning Brandy Merriam (Presidential Brokerage) to "stay away from her guy - or else".  Several EWI ladies apparently had it in for Brandy and confronted her throughout the evening.  It got ugly and very uncomfortable for the rest of us observing the tension between Brandy, Lorrie Molli (Goodwill), Rhonda Gerberich (St. Francis Hospital), Connie from Las Vegas, and Sandy, a client of Brandy's.  Lorrie, who has been known to have a few mental issues warned Brandy "to keep her mouth shut or she would be a ‘dead woman walking'".  Rhonda was tired of all the hype "always about Brandy" and vocalized her wish that Brandy would get out of the spot light so she could shine.  Something happened in Las Vegas that involved Brandy, and Connie had a blackmail note.  Sandy was upset that Brandy invested her retirement funds carelessly and lost a significant amount.

Later in the evening Brandy was found dead with a hatchet in her chest!  It was a gruesome scene, indeed, with blood everywhere.  Detective Dick needed the help of all EWI members and asked for assistance.  Each of us had to conduct our own investigations, question the suspects, and review the clues to help the detective.

The clues were: #1-the body; #2-threatening fish note from Las Vegas; #3-the note from Cathie John; #4-"keep your mouth shut or you're a dead woman walking" from Lorrie Molli; #5-the bloody glove in the elevator; and #6-blood type "O Positive".  Several EWI members assisted in the investigation - Pat Cooper (Wallacevision) took pictures of the scene, Kathleen O'Leary (Transitional Member) helped with the clues and four pallbearers removed Brandy's lifeless body from the area.

After reviewing all the clues, EWI teams solved the mystery with Detective Dick...Rhonda did it!  She had access to rubber gloves that had powder inside of them, powder on her slacks, and the matching blood type.  All the clues added up.  She was very quiet through this ordeal, but she had a score to settle with Brandy and quietly took matters into her own hands.

The team that was way off track and did not read the clues at all correctly was "The KDR" Team-Kelli Holt (Lillian's), Rita Worster (BKD), and Deb Haar (Enchanted Signs).

"The Trio"-Audrey Shrive (Aflac), Carol Bryant (Stanley Steemer), and Jennifer Gray (Cornerstone) had the necessary skills to read the clues correctly and determine that Rhonda had done it!

We had an excellent networking evening!  Everyone got into the role playing (some may have taken it a bit too seriously!) but there was plenty of laughter (good endorphins), conversation, and problem solving.   The Elks Lodge was an incredible host and venue, the meal nourished everyone, allowing participants to concentrate on the murder-task-at-hand and all the ladies left with a smile on their face and fun in their hearts after enjoying the EWI experience.
