President's Message

by Pat Cooper, Wallace Vision

Welcome back renewed members, new members sustaining, transitional, honorary and life members to the second half of Mission P.A.T. (Possibilities - Analyze - Take Action). Hard to believe that half of the 2008-2009 board term has past and that we have goals to finish and new projects to start.
Our new web site is in the midst of construction. We are not adapting the Corporate template but instead are changing our format to the best possible match. The complexity of our website has become more than a very streamlined template will accommodate.
We are now including all Education seminars, committee meetings on our Calendar of Events locate in the About Us tab.
A section entitled “Be Green” is being added. Thank you Susan Davis for planting this seed.– With this new item we invite members to send in articles that can be featured on this subject. We have started with some basic facts; feel free to submit articles to me for future publication
The next few months are critical to EWI. Our mission to help empower a few progressive women that will perhaps be the care takes of our generation. The is our 7th Annual Scholastic Golf Tournament. We must have participation from each member of our organization in some fashion. June 5th is only three months away; time to starting putting our teams together and arranging sponsorship from our companies and business associates. Despite economic conditions, many businesses are doing fine, but they are very selective in their choice of expenditures. We must communicate the purpose of higher education to the future leaders in our community and the opportunity to play in a private beautiful course while net working with business associates.
May the luck of the Irish be with us during the windy month of March!!
Pat Cooper

Membership Campaign Incentives-
Each representative who recruits a new member firm during the period of October 1, 2008 - May 31, 2009 will receive a EWI eco friendly shopping bag with the new EWI logo. There is no limit on the number of shopping bags a representative can receive. Just make sure your name is listed as the recruiter on the New Member Application, Form 15. Each recruiter's name will be entered into a drawing for a 2009 LCAM registration. Three (3) separate drawings will be held based on which division your Chapter is in (Eastern, Central and Western).
There is no limit on the number of chances a representative can earn.
The TOP RECRUITER will also win a 2009 LCAM registration. (In the event of a tie, a random drawing will be held for this prize.)
NET GROWTH PLUS 1: Each Chapter that has at least one more member firm as of June 1, 2009 than it had on October 1, 2008 will receive a free registration for an EWI Online course ($175 value) to be used at the Chapter's discretion.
CHAPTER RETENTION: Each Chapter who retains 95% or more of their member firms at renewal will receive EWI eco friendly shopping bags with the new EWI logo for each of their Chapter members (active and sustaining).
The EWI Membership Campaign is in full swing. Since the onset of the campaign on October 1, 2008 we have 57 new firms; 38 in October and 19 in November! This is as of mid-December. As of November 30th we have recruited 355 firms in 2008.
We are so close to reaching our 2008 membership goal of 440 new firms. We only need 85 more firms to sign up by December 31, 2008. WE CAN DO THIS! If you have a firm on the hook, get them signed up before year-end.
Remember, dues increase $5.00 beginning January 1, 2009. Corporate dues will increase to $130, with B/C/DP staying at $40. EWI is still the best deal around for networking our firms and staying connected with our local community.

We will have a panel made of up 4-5 member firm reps who work in the financial services industry to help guide some discussion on these topics and more, make plans now to attend!

MAY: Spend a relaxing spring evening relaxing and learning more about this scared place
Executive Women International (EWI) Colorado Springs Chapter Monthly Meeting
Wednesday May 13, 2009, 5:00 pm, $35.00. At the Glen Eyrie Castle.
Spend a relaxing spring evening relaxing and learning more about this scared place. Glen Eyrie was built in 1904 by war hero and railroad tycoon General William Palmer. General Palmer also founded Colorado Springs and donated the land for Colorado College. Glen Eyrie is a 67 room English Tudor-style castle with 24 fireplaces. The castle had many advances such as a primitive intercom system, and a chimney system that would hold the smoke until the wind was blowing in the right direction to take the smoke out of the valley. The enclosed valley is spectacular for this charming castle.
Address: Glen Eyrie
3820 North 30th Street
Colorado Springs, CO 80904.

Meeting Summary
|
|
|
...you deserve a delicious life!
It's the little things that add up that make a delicious life. This was the charming message shared with us a few days before Valentine's Day by Cynthia Nimerichter, agent for The Delicious Theory.
Cynthia imparted that life is like a buffet and to be well nourished through life, we need to learn to be gracious, generous and grateful. If we can integrate the 3 G's into our lives each of us will be abundant. Living deliciously every day takes guts and courage and how we decide to live through our relationships is what matters. Make it a habit of counting your blessings and become less controlled by wants and desires. Enjoy what is!
Along with learning to live deliciously through joyfulness, optimism, happiness and health, we also need to be fully present and listen more to each other and connect through our stories. Happiness is something you can design and have control over.
We had a delectable evening at the Pikes Peak Center in the beautiful American National Bank Club Room and served a scrumptious buffet meal by Counterplate Catering.
The evening was capped off with three of our member firms The Cool Company - Lynn Cool, Art of Design - Debbie Tuzel and PageCafe Internet Consulting - Lorrie Todd sharing information about their businesses and how EWI members can benefit from using their services. We also had the monthly birthday cake with the names of all of the members who have a February birthday's. Happy Birthday to Kathryn Flobeck, Ann Carlisle, Amy Kennedy, Susan Davis, Eileen Wolff and Vanessa Moorman.

Be Green! |
|
In an effort to be more conscientious about our earth, be defenders of the planet, we are going to begin to have little tidbits on how we can improve what we throw away. If you have any ideas, thoughts, cares about how OUR EWI CHAPTER can be greener, please share them in this section of the newsletter.
An initiative to be Green here are some interesting facts you might not be aware of about PLASTIC BOTTLES:
- Plastic bottles take 700 years before they begin to decompose in a landfill. ( http://earth911.com/plastic/plastic-bottle-recycling-facts/ )
- Eight out of 10 plastic water bottles become landfill waste. ( http://earth911.com/plastic/plastic-bottle-recycling-facts/)
- Recycled bottles provide an environmentally friendly source for making new products and substitutes recycled materials for new plastic. Recycled plastic bottles make hundreds of everyday products, including, but not limited to, fleece jackets, carpeting, and lumber for outdoor decking. ( http://green.msn.com/Home/Recycling-Plastic-Bottles/ )
- Recycling a ton of plastic bottles saves approximately 3.8 barrels of oil. ( http://green.msn.com/Home/Recycling-Plastic-Bottles/ )
- Plastics are made from petroleum - a limited nonrenewable resource. It is predicted that by the year 2040, the Earth‘s usable petroleum reserves will have been depleted. (State of California Department of Health Services, Toxic Substances Control Program. Handbook from the Toxic Substances Control Program.)
- If you lined up all the polystyrene foam cups made in just one day, they would circle the earth. (EarthWorks Group. 1990. The Recycler's Handbook. Berkeley, CA: The EarthWorks Press.)
Earth Day is April 22, 2009. Earth Day promotes environmental awareness and calls for the protection of our planet.
