President's Message
|

With late Spring and early Summer comes revitalized energy to attack old projects and wrestle with current goals before the Fall snows start.
We all struggle with time management and especially with issues that are facing our generation unlike any generation before us. Many refer to us as the sandwich generation; caring for both the generation before us and generation after us….and still maintaining demanding careers.
I can feel the time restrictions that we all have as we have been organizing our new Board and when we attempted to organize new Social Clubs within EWI of CS. Time is valuable and with choices comes responsibility.
At this time, we have approximately 91% of our membership committed to involvement in varying degrees of our organization. We invite those whose lives have not allowed a time commitment to reconsider. Many of our board position require a Chair and assistant Chair to have a successful committee. As an example, our Programs committee is comprised of over 20 members.
Despite the many Women’s organization in our community, EWI of CS has prevailed in membership, quality of local programs, leadership within our Community and maintained Scholarships for deserving women. The nonprofits, business related organizations and community boards that we all represent still astounds me. Please find your niche within our organization, experience the wealth of our Chapter and let us learn from each other.
As we pursue the mission of EWI and invite new potential members to our Chapter, please keep in mind our 3 C’s and the vision that our foundering mother Wanda Reeves had for us….

Volunteer Oportunity
EWI ladies, here is an opportunity for us to contribute to our community in a way that I know can truly make a difference.
From June 1 to July 24, area churches are partnering with School District 11 to offer English as a Second Language classes to local refugees. Classes are held in the morning and afternoons, and are in desperate need of volunteer teachers, and NO EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED. Please contact Wanda Reaves for more information. Wanda’s email is

On a personal note, we have seen this program at work many times. We have quite a few “ESL Employees”, many of whom have taken English as a Second Language through the local schools. The individuals who take this step become more self-confident as they progress through the classes, and their ability to communicate with other employees is a tremendous help for them, both personally and professionally.

EWI 25th Anniversary “Congrats, again, to our chapter on its 25th anniversary. I wanted to extend my thanks again to all those who made the event such a success. It was a fun and classy evening, as the photos attest. I wanted to also express my appreciation for winning the many wonderful items in the gift basket (I know you were all jealous!); I have enjoyed many of the items that were provided or solicited, and have shared others with friends and associates. I am fortunate to be associated with such a great group. Thanks again!”

Meeting Summary

|
A Spring Evening at Glen Eyrie
|
|
The Evening at Glen Eyrie in early May was a very pleasant and enlightening event for all the Ewi ladies and their guests who attended. It was a blustery, beautiful Colorado evening in a absoutely gorgeous setting! We were all treated to a personal historical tour and custom video of Glen Eyrie past and present.
It was presented by a couple who is fortunate to live on the grounds of Glen Eyrie for the summer. Being a native of Colorado Springs myself, it was amazing the information they presented that I had never known about the property and all the history and even what is available today for the general public to take advantage of.
It would be a spectacular place for a wedding/reception, they have special rooms and times for Teas. There are conventions and events of all types encouraged, and at this time, specials on Bed and Breakfasts.
The buffet dinner was superb and we had a report on the upcoming Golf Tournament with postive report from Mary Good-Forsthye and all is coming together wonderfully well!!
Some great door prizes were won and I beleive everyone had fun and some great convesation and good times together! See You all at the Golf Tourney!!

Membership Campaign Update - Results as of April 30, 2009
June is almost here and with it comes the end of the Membership Campaign. We
all know the economy has slowed down and firms are watching their bottom lines
this year. Chapters have done a great job recruiting and retaining members in
these economic times, but compared to last year’s Membership Campaign our
numbers are way down. Last year, between October 1, 2007 and April 30, 2008,
EWI Chapters recruited 270 new firms. This year during the same time period,
we are at 185 new firms.
