Ready or not Fall is here and for our Chapter that means a new Board of Directors. A delegation of ten Colorado Springs EWI'S returned this week from LCAM in Palm Springs with an arsenal of ideas and up lifting spirits to lead us into our new year. Our first activity this year will be a Board Retreat to streamline these ideas and proceed with Mission P.A.T. (Possibilities, Analyze and Take Action).
At our last meeting President Davis handed me the "official gavel" as I was traveling on the Island of EWI. You were introduced to our new Board and thus we start journey; long with our leading our board these are my goals for the coming year:
-
Strong programs to keep our minds focused on the 3 C's , Connections Careers and Community
-
Member retention and new members that provide strengths to our organization. As we bring guests; think Possibility, Analyze their strengths, and Take Action, not all individuals fit EWI, but many women are looking for an EWI relationship that will take them to new heights.
-
Increase the visibility of our Chapter in our area. Possibilities are numerous, analyze how to accomplish, Take Action
-
Involve every member in our organization; If you do not step forward, we will be reaching out to tap your wisdom.
-
Have FUN!!!
We embark on this journey together; let us make it a great year!

Time to reel in those firms that are on the edge and here is the deal:
Fifteen months of membership for the price of twelve months for all new member firms. Join during the month of October, November or December and dues will not be due again until January of 2010. Ways & Means Committee:
Hello Ladies of Colorado Springs EWI,
Joan Taylor and Mary-Good Forsythe will Co-Chair Ways and Means for our 7th Annual Golf Tournament and the planning has begun! At present we are looking for committee members and are hoping to reach 100% participation from our EWI members. This can be done by giving your time, talent and treasure! This is an opportunity for each of us to give back to our organization and our community as we help other women reach their education goals. We know that many of you are already setting up your budgets for 2009 and we are hoping you will be able to help out in our goals for the 7th Annual Golf Tournament. Please start considering now how you, as a member, want to participate - whether as a sponsor, putting together a foursome, contributing a door prize or donating something for the goodie bags.
We're excited and looking forward to working together for another successful golf event!
Thanks,
Joan & Mary-Good

Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting in Palm Springs, CA September 18-21, 2008. LCAM Experience:
As a member of Springs EWI for four years and serving on four different board committees during that time, I thought that I had experienced most of what EWI had to offer. It wasn't until I went to LCAM that I learned and appreciated how much the corporate office does for our organization and how much more I could learn and experience through EWI. The diligence put into hiring top-notch seminar facilitators to foster women's professional development is note-worthy. Even as a FranklinCovey and Toastmasters International leadership graduate, I learned new ideas and skills to take back to my EWI chapter as well as to my own company and non-profit organization where I volunteer. The networking opportunities we have with EWI members from over 65 different chapters from all over the country is impressive -- I made a great connection with one of the past presidents of the Honolulu chapter and have started conversing with her via email. And the FUN!
I haven't laughed and danced that hard for that long with as many new friends in years!! How special it is for our chapter to be as successful as it is to send 10 members to experience a wonderful three days of learning, inspiration, relaxing and camaraderie. Every single member of our chapter should experience LCAM!
Thank you, for this memorable experience and I'm looking forward to the next one in Sep 2009 in Louisville, Kentucky!!
-Diane Crimble
How do you share an experience, camaraderie and eye opening event with someone who has not been there? That is my challenge.
As a new member my expectation of LCAM was unknown. By going to this event I learned more about me, the women I choose to be with and the women resources all around EWI. We as women wear so many hats and we think we don't need others as much as we do. This event showed me that we are small cords in a very strong rope.
The emotions and physical support along with actionable education works both professionally and personally. The organization and this Chapter are VERY Special.
WOW... is the best word I can think of!
If you want to meet people that can inspire, share, grow and care about you and your profession - THIS IS IT.
The classes at the leadership academy were World Class.
How does that help YOU?
Take the time to have a conversation One-on-One with someone who has attended LCAM. Let them make a difference for you. You can benefit even if you did not attend. Those that attended have a Passion to share with you what they learned, example- using modern resources, communicating with co-workers and relatives, marketing and communication with multi generational people and many many more.
By each person sharing what they learned or experienced we are able to benefit as a greater whole.
The other 71 city chapters that were represented offered more than professional support. That is AMAZING!
This chapter made me welcome and cared for. They did not leave me to find my way through a busy maze of events alone. Think about this for a moment...... isn't that the way life makes us feel sometimes like we are searching in a maze alone. The ladies that attended this 1st event with me had the huge responsibility to make this a GREAT Experience. They did so with flying colors.
What do you need? Be more involved!! The more involved (not more time) the more resources you find available to you for whatever need you have.
I thank the board, this chapter and the ladies that walked me through LCAM for offering me such a wonderful opportunity that I will forever be grateful for. It is now my personal goal to speak with every person in the chapter about this event and continue educating as many women as I can. Ask me how I can inspire YOU!

Go Red for Women Event October 17th, 2008
Dear EWI members: Do you remember when we had Leslie McGinn, Executive Director (for Colo Springs) for American Heart Association and GO Red for Women at our July meeting at Cheyenne Mountain State Park talk to us about AMA and Go Red? I am hosting an EWI Passion table for the GO Red For Women event on October 17th. The Go Red event is from 8:30 am - 2:30 p.m.(through lunch). The ticket price includes everything at $125.00 per person. The day begins at 8:30 with about 13 different screenings you can receive, 2 doctor panel sessions, cooking demonstrations on healthy cooking, mini massage opportunities and a great silent auction. All of that ends about 11:45. The luncheon begins at noon with a heart- healthy lunch and keynote speaker. It's a really fun day. The auction does close when the luncheon starts. Let me know if you and a guest would like to join me at the EWI table. This is EWI's opportunity to participate in the community and give exposure to EWI also. It's also for a very important cause and a cause that women need to pay attention to!!! Please join me. Cardiovascular disease claims the lives of more than 460,000 women every year causing one death per minute.

September Meeting
Installation of New Board Colorado Springs EWI Chapter
by Susan L. Davis
The September meeting is an important meeting because our chapter begins a new board transition for our 26th year as a chapter of the EWI. The historic Colorado College Old President's House on Wood Avenue hosted our fabulous September 10th meeting.
The evening began with cocktails on the patio of this historic house. The flowers were in full bloom, the yard was lush and many were able to witness the red fox slink across the lawn. Corkscrew Custome Wine Shope (member firm) furnished a rich array of wines that were shared by many. As many of the members were visiting they could also stroll through the house to take in many of the historic features of this lovely house.
Barbara Winter and Marti Hartman shared with us some of the historical facts about the house. The delicious sit down meal was furnished by Bon Apetit catering. President Susan Davis called the meeting to order and reminisced about the past year calling to mind "that it is not the size of the ship, but the motion in the ocean" that started the journey for her and the 2008 board a year ago. She revealed the many successes achieved over the year, including several great programs, the wonderful publicity for the chapter, eight new member firms joining our tremendous organization, an additional scholarship commitment, and celebrating our 25th year as a chapter. She thanked her board for their dedication, hard work and devotion to the chapter and handed out a gift to each board member. From there she put her captain's hat on to begin to depart from the ship.
The ship had docked and President Susan ran into New President Pat on the Island of EWI. Pat Cooper was handed the offical gavel. Pat Cooper addressed the membership with her hard hat and clip board in hand. She shared her visions for the new year and the new Mission P.A.T. (possibilities, analysis and take action) for the chapter goals for the year. She introduced her new 2008-09 board with colorful hard hats with their job titles and duties. President Pat was on her way to the national Leadership Conference and President Caucus in Palm Springs, CA and when she returns she will begin to enlighten all of the member representatives with her new vision for 2008-09
