Woodmen Wine
& Liquors
Dee Jones
My husband Gene and and I own buildings at Union Town Center (Albertson's center at Research & Union), Ridgeview Center (King Sooper's Center at Powers & Stetson Hills), and Woodmen Plaza ( King Sooper's Center at Woodmen and Lexington.) We're currently in the process of doing a building at the new Walmart Center in Monument Marketplace. Our tenants include: American Family Insurance, Ascent Bicycling, Bird Dog BBQ, Liquor Depot, Little Caesar's Pizza, Payless Liquor, Postal Annex, Rustic Moose, Supper Solutions, and Woodmen Wine. We do our own real estate development and property management. It takes us well over a year to complete a project from start to finish.
We have a 30 year old son, Justin, who is a lawyer in Austin, Texas; we have one daughter, Allyson, 27, who lives in Arlington, Virgina and works in D.C. for Booz Allen and Hamilton. We've been in the Springs since the late 70's, and were both raised in Nebraska. I taught high school at Brownell Talbot School in Omaha before moving to Colorado.
My hobbies are traveling ( I look forward to going to Ireland this fall with a lifelong girlfriend), flower gardening, needlework, playing clarinet with the New Horizons Band (it's for people over 40 and lots of fun), and promoting literacy through my sorority, Pi Beta Phi. I can be reached at 719.271.9899 or deedejones@hotmail.com

President's Message
The Humbled Facilitator
by Kathleen O'Leary
|
|
Hello Executive Women, it’s great to be here!
Your Colorado Springs chapter of EWI has been around since 1983. There have been 22 presidents that have served our chapter before me. How honored I was to be selected to be the 23 rd President and to be listed among so many talented leaders!
Each year the president is responsible for ‘leading’ the board and giving guidance to the various committees. The advice I was given by a few past presidents at the beginning of my year was to just be myself and it will be amazing how it will all work out. They shared their insight about how it is more about bringing your own personal style and unique energy to the position than it is about trying to make a huge impact. They encouraged me to be the facilitator extraordinaire with an Irish flair!
Well, this year I think you felt my energy and I hope I was able to guide our chapter in the right direction! I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to be surrounded by such powerful, supportive, compassionate and articulate women. I have learned buckets about facilitating and leading and guiding. I have also been thrilled to discover that there is no shortage of imagination from our members on how to make the chapter succeed and grow in the coming years!
AND since my success is totally dependent on the success of my board and committee members I would like to say thank you for making it an unforgettable year to the following special women:
This years’ board had many new members that brought their own special energy to the process, including Tia Warren, Executive Image by Tia, Donna Vessey of Donna Vessey Entertainment, Dianne Loper from Pass It On, Valerie Blankenship of Sage Woman Herbs, Kathleen Kershaw of Re/Max and Kimberly Powell of Colorado Aviation. Thank you ladies, for your infectious enthusiasm and for jumping right in!
We also were fortunate to have many repeat board members that shared their insight and experience that was invaluable. I would like to thank each one of you as well, starting with Kathy Wallace, our most talented artist from WallaceVision as my VP. I do appreciate your support and your level head! Georgianna Lee, Old West Cigar, my steady secretary, Pat Cooper, World Savings my conscientious and always accurate treasurer and the daring duo of Donna Berty, Select Long Term Care and Susan Davis, Wells Fargo as Sergeant-at-Arms – thank you officers of the board. We had some diversity this year but as Susan Davis put it, we can all learn from those experiences the most!
I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the ever rosy Jeannie Roblewsky as historian, Kathryn Flobeck as membership chair – the hardest committee to chair and definitely the most work involved, Beth Alexander as the always encouraging monthly newsletter roper, Kay Atwood and Bea Steahlin who ran a tight and effective Ways and Means ship, Linda Williamson as immediate past president who recruited a robust board for Kathy Wallace’s incoming talent pool, Lorrie Todd who provided her steady stream of technical support and personal advice for me and Joan Saucerman who put the icing on the cake of my presidency by bringing the printing of the directory project to fruition!!!! Yeah!!!!
Ladies, it has been my pleasure and honor to serve as the 23 rd President of your chapter. I have been truly humbled by the experience! Thank you to the Past Presidents who provided support and advice at the beginning and all throughout my tenure. It was much appreciated.
It has truly been GREAT to be here!!

Talk about inspiration! At the August 9th meeting, Dr. Nancy Saltzman shared her
insights on life based on the story of her own personal journey of living
through two bouts with breast cancer and then the loss of her husband and
two young sons in a tragic plane crash. Nancy's message behind all she's
experienced is that you never know how even the smallest of gestures may
touch someone or even possibly change their life. She emphasized that even
with all she's lived through, she carries an attitude of appreciation for
what she's had instead of dwelling on what she's lost. This critical
message applies in our professional lives as well as personal, so focus on
your gifts and their giver. Door prizes were provided by Kay Atwood and Dianne Loper.

Old Business: |
|
Kathleen O’Leary notified the board of the board officer’s decision on rejecting Gail Nuth ’s membership. The decision was based on the non-compete issue of EWI’s by-laws along with not having the proper information at the time of the board’s vote. Kathleen spoke with Gail personally and explained the reasons for the decision. The board reviewed how to process new applications through the membership committee’s guidelines before being brought to the board for a vote.

|
New Business: |
