Spotlight On...Sharon Olney
B&L Carpet and Interiors
Sharon Olney and B&L Carpet and Interiors represent many fine lines of carpet, hardwood, natural stone and tile. However, they are much more than flooring suppliers. Family owned and operated for over 30 years, B&L has raised personal service to an art form. Plus, Olney’s interior design expertise is a key to B&L’s success. In addition to quality flooring products, B&L offers full interior design services that range from quick consultations to complete home renovations.
In fact, home updates are where Olney’s talents shine brightest. One growing area of her business is pre-sale updates for homeowners preparing to put their home on the market. Olney believes that a small investment in strategically selected new finishes can translate into higher market value. Working closely with her team of craftsmen, B&L transforms homes from mundane to spectacular, quickly and within budget. Homes updated by B&L consistently command higher offers than they would have previously, more than covering the small cost of updating.
Olney’s talent for visualizing the possibilities in projects, large or small, is well-respected. “ Sharon Olney provides professional service with a personal touch. Her creativity is a real asset to the business, as well as her high standard for quality,” says John Hermes of re/ MAX Properties, Inc.
Originally from New Mexico, Sharon has lived in Colorado for over 30 years. She lives in the Broadmoor Bluffs area with her husband, attorney Lynn Olney and her two soft-coated wheaten terriers. She is active in her church and other community activities. www.bandlinteriors.com
Get Ready to Flaunt Your Business and Talents!!
This year the Cavalcade of Firms has been scheduled for our October 12th meeting at a new and exciting location, The Paragon Culinary Institute, located at Fillmore and I-25. We will enjoy a chef prepared buffet in a very unique jazz club and ballroom setting! For newcomers to EWI, the Cavalcade is basically our own Mini Trade Show. Members who wish to participate in “show and tell” set up booths to showcase, or FLAUNT, their business. It’s a great opportunity to get information to and from our membership, and whether you have a booth, or you choose to stroll and take everything in, it makes for a wonderful evening. For more information about reserving a booth, email Beth Alexander, or call her at 593-9458.

President's Message
Power of Partnerships
by Kathleen O'Leary
|
|
Hello, Executive Women! It’s GREAT to be here!
I would like to thank the chapter for the opportunity for me to attend the annual EWI Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting, LCAM, held in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the theme was the Power of Partnerships. At the conference I was able to attend a Presidents caucus information session, an Academy of Leadership training on Volunteer Leadership, listen to inspirational speakers such as Catherine Crier and Steven Covey, and participate in workshops including Chapter Publicity and How to Make it the Best Year your Chapter Ever Had. We also were treated to a night at the stadium where they held the 2002 Winter Olympics, where the theme was LIGHT THE FIRE WITHIN.
As your incoming President I must admit I am honored, thrilled, a little nervous, and very hopeful that the coming year will be a GREAT experience for all of us. I hope that we can partner together to make it so. As many of us have already discovered there is a tremendous amount of value to you if you get involved.
Your board is in the process of planning future programs that will reflect the organizations’ mission statement:
EWI brings together key individuals from diverse businesses for the purpose of: promoting member firms, enhancing personal and professional development and encouraging community involvement.
Here is some information about the organization that you belong to: Executive Women International was established in California in 1938 when Lucille Johnson Perkins recognized the importance and potential of an association of key women working with their executives to promote their firms and improve their community. It was incorporated as Executives Secretaries, Inc.
In May of 1977 the organization's name was changed to Executive Women International. This change reflects the international expansion of the organization and recognizes the changing roles of women in business and the diverse careers held by its representatives.
Over 3000 companies and 3500 representatives are members of EWI today in 75 chapters located in cities in the United States and Canada . EWI is the premier organization for networking and leadership development for today's business professionals and their firms. To illustrate how the chapters emphasize community involvement, last year over $500,000 was distributed in scholarships and literacy programs.
Please be encouraged to collaborate with your board to give us your input, ideas, time, and talent to make your experience this year with EWI GREAT!

October EWI Meeting- The Cliff House
The setting was the magnificent Cliff House for the September meeting that was the transitional meeting for your board. Linda Williamson of the Broadmoor Hotel, outgoing president, called each member of her board up individually to recognize them for their contributions throughout the year. She presented them each with beautiful service plaques. The 2004-2005 board then presented Linda with an exquisite World Market basket created by Beth Alexander of Cachet Baskets (for all your basket/gift needs contact her directly).
Linda then turned the gavel over to the incoming president, Kathleen O’Leary from Lane Affiliated Pepsi companies, who had her 2005-2006 board come forward to be recognized.
Susan Davis from Wells Fargo and Joan Taylor from Ent donated door prizes.
Just to put a final bow on the event, Matthew Gilbert (nephew of Jean Roblewsky of Gilbert Gibson Celtic Celebrations) provided some uplifting jiggy bagpipe music in full dress (kilt and all). There were smiles and clapping all around! Slainte (cheers) to everyone!
