EWI Success Story
By Kay Atwood
Orbit Promotions
We enjoy seeing each other at meetings, getting to know how we, as executive women, business owners and business executives, all co-exist in Colorado Springs. Before the meeting starts we mingle, mix and possibly as a new member feel a bit lost. But we keep attending the meetings and after awhile it clicks!
We look forward to attending the monthly meetings and enjoy talking to the women we know. We even approach women we don’t know very well and are amazed that there is a connection. Sometimes we may leave a meeting and wonder why we are members because we don’t seem to be getting any business out of belonging to EWI. Trust me! It takes time to develop the relationships and then your break comes…you’ll get a call like I did from Linda Williamson of The Broadmoor asking for a quote, an idea, a solution to her problem.
Linda needed a bag to put in 2 Sunday newspapers and to hang on the door of each hotel room, so their guests would have the Denver Post and The Gazette to read on Sunday morning. The problem was that the tote bags they were using were being taken and it was getting costly. I researched the many manufacturers who make tote bags and found one who actually made a newspaper bag that is used by the St. Regis in New York City. It had tabs on the open bottom, which kept the newspapers in the bag, but wasn’t something people took because of the open bottom. I had a sample sent to Linda, got excellent pricing and delivery and (drum roll please!) was awarded a fantastic order of 5,000 bags. Then later another order of 13,000 bags!!! They are really good looking too – black with the metallic silver Broadmoor logo on them. Thank you, Linda Williamson!!!
So the business is there, ladies! Trust the process. Become involved and allow people to get to know you. Your expertise will shine. It’s the relationship that comes first. I always enjoyed talking to Linda at meetings and one time asked her if it was okay if I dropped off some catalogs. The rest is history. I hope this encourages you to put yourself out there, attend the meetings and ask for appointments. We want to do business with each other. Think of the member firms when you have a need. Let’s be a vibrant organization and support one another.

President's Message
Classic Fall
by Kathleen O'Leary
|
|
Hello, Executive Women – it’s GREAT to be here!
What a beautiful time of year for us here in our city – my favorite time! Trees are illuminated with different colors of fall, streets are lined with leaves, there is a crispness in the air and yet the fall sun in the sky is bright as ever.
The change in seasons is so distinct there is no mistaking it. There is also no mistaking that there are other changes going on all around us and definitely within our chapter.
We have just changed over to the new board and there is a lot of excitement in the air. We are all very anxious to serve the needs of the chapter and to do the best we can in making it a positive, rewarding experience for everyone. There are a lot of questions being asked, a lot of searching for the right methods and there is some mentoring of each other going on. We are working with each other to determine what our future members may look like, what our programs should be about and how we can develop our members. Your new board is looking forward to this year – please do not hesitate to give us your input and ideas.
I have experienced while serving on the board and in conversations at meetings, or working with others on our fund raisers, that EWI is a very SAFE place to be and to grow and to change! I have seen change happen all around me and it has happened to me! Many thank yous to those of you who have been MY mentors within the chapter (you know who you are)!
Change can be a good thing and it’s been said that there is no constant like change. I am so looking forward to this year - our future is as bright as that classic fall sun in the sky!

October EWI Meeting
The 2005 Cavalcade of firms was a resounding success! Hosted at the Paragon Culinary Institute, members had the chance to Flaunt their businesses and talents! The venue was smaller and more intimate this year and we had record attendance with 21 firms represented by booths. Highlights included onsite Chiropractic evaluations by Kelly Wood of Stading & Wood Chiropractic, wellness consultations and samples of herbal remedies from Valerie Blankenship of Sage Woman Herbs and Kat Kelly and her amazing array of glasses from Op Tech Laboratory.
Kay Atwood showed her great selection of logo merchandise and Lanonah demonstrated the latest in instant gratification photography from Shewmaker’s Camera Shop. Kathy Wallace and Beth Alexander of Cachet Basket Co. presented great gift ideas for the holidays. There were power point presentations and fabulous giveaways, a wonderful event to be sure. Thanks to Debbie Rupert , Lynn Severson , Jane Marshall and Beth Alexander for doorprize donations.

New Leadership Theme
Finding the Courage to Take Risks
Is there a risk you need to take to reach a goal in your life? We confront risks in every aspect of our lives: whether it is speaking out in a group, reaching a lofty career goal, or assuming a new responsibility within EWI.
Risks don't go away, but our fear to confront them can. The next EWI Professional Development Teleseminar can help you find the courage to turn your risks into rewards. This teleseminar is designed to improve your risk-taking ability and help you develop the courage to make your life and career a success. We hope it will enhance your life personally and professionally, as well as within your EWI Chapter.
The final Professional Development Teleseminar for 2005 will be held Thursday, November 17 at 8 p.m. EST. Click here to register http://www.executivewomen.org/ScriptContent/lead_circle/coaching.cfm
Our speaker will be Deirdre McEachern, a full time personal coach, writer and speaker on work-life issues. Deirdre's company, VIP Coaching, offers specialized business coaching and career coaching for change.
In preparation for this teleseminar, Deirdre recommends, Stand up for Your Life: A Practical Step by Step Plan to Build Inner Confidence and Personal Power, by Cheryl Richardson.
