Donna Vessey Entertainment

Rep: Donna Vessey

Donna Vessey has been a fixture in the local entertainment scene for over a decade. In 1994, she formed her own theatre company, Little London Productions, and for three years provided some of the best comedy theater ever seen in Colorado Springs. In 1997, Donna accepted the position of Vice President of Casting & Directing for a local murder mystery troupe where she performed in over 300 improv murder mysteries. During her tenure in that position she found herself being a resource for companies seeking various types of entertainment. Seeing the need and a business opportunity she formed her own business. Currently, Donna is President and CEO of Donna Vessey Entertainment. Donna Vessey Entertainment provides entertainment for corporate and private events. Along with David, her husband of 30 years, they scour the entire country looking for the best musicians, comedians and entertainers available. With Donna Vessey Entertainment’s extensive files and resources they can provide an event planner with the information they need on a moments notice. They can save party and event planners precious time, money and stress by having already done all of the research.

Donna and David spend a good portion of their time finding and screening new performers. Donna Vessey Entertainment will not recommend a performer until they have seen them in person. With their high standards, event planners can be assured that they are getting the best entertainment available. When a request is made for entertainment Donna Vessey Entertainment provides demo CD’s or DVD’s, references and their own seal of approval to provide assurances that the client is getting the most for their money.

Donna Vessey Entertainment supplies comedians, musicians, key-note speakers as well as décor, ice sculptures, and balloon drops, (extremely popular with local companies planning their holiday party). Her team of décor specialists can turn any room into a saloon, speakeasy, beach party or Mardi Gras. Theme parties are a specialty as well as professional roasting and provide characters to spice up at your party, i.e., Elvis, Santa, Marilyn Monroe, etc. Although the majority of their work is corporate they also provide entertainment for children’s parties from clowns, jugglers, balloon tiers, face painters, mad scientists, giant puppets and stilt walkers. They also specialize in culturally diverse entertainment from German Oompah bands for your Oktoberfest, Mariachi players, African drummers, New Orleans Jazz, and Japanese Taiko to Hawaiian dance troupes and Native American music.

Donna moved to Colorado Springs with her family in 1974. She graduated from Fountain-Ft. Carson High School and married her high school sweetheart. The acting bug had bitten Donna when she was quite young. She started working with local theater groups and acting in commercials. To date, Donna has shot almost 100 local and regional commercials. Her training includes studies at the Arvada Center for Performing Arts in Arvada, Colorado as well as The Second City School of Improv in Chicago.

Today, Donna Vessey Entertainment is the official entertainment provider for the Sky Sox Security Service Field, and their new banquet facility, and will be supplying entertainment for the upcoming State games at the World Arena this summer. By supplying demos on all the talent at her disposal, companies have come to rely on Donna Vessey Entertainment to make their party, retreat or employee recognition a success. Please see their website for more information at www.dvent.biz.

YOUR VOICE

I took advantage of the March 24th teleseminar offered through the corporate EWI website under Leadership Link/Professional Development E-Zine.  The teleseminar was on Work-Life Balance.  The speaker was Joyce Weiss of Bold Solutions to Boost the Bottom Line.  The topic caught my eye because I am always looking for ways to put more balance in my life between my job and the rest of the world.  The teleseminar was held on a Thursday evening at 8 pm.  It was easy to register through the website and it was free!  Two days before the teleseminar you get an email from the Education Services Coordinator from the Corporate Office with the participant dial-in number and the passcode along with the attachments for the course.  I really liked the fact that I could be at home to listen to the teleseminar, relax in a comfy chair and listen without any other interruptions.  It was great!

Joyce Weiss did a great job in sharing ways to bring a healthy balance to your life through her book Take the Ride of your Life!  We all know that life is getting more and more hectic.  We are all working at one or more jobs, fighting long commutes, managing a household, furthering our education, raising children, or dealing with aging parents, volunteering and being involved in community events and serving our local EWI chapter.

She has a questionnaire to see if you are burnout prone.  She recommended that you take a Renewal Survey on determining how you are feeling with being able to handle everyday things and she offered some renewal techniques.  And then she helped with how you determine what your core values are in life and how to prioritize them, followed up with an action plan to improve your day, week or month.  Then it was followed up with a question and answer time.

I was very pleased with the teleseminar.  I liked the fact that I could do it from the comfort of my own home, just take it easy, listen and relax.  The teleseminar was also available to listen to again for two weeks after the program.  So if you missed some of the contents, or took a short nap (too relaxed at home), or needed to refresh your memory, the program was available to listen to as many times as needed.  Afterwards, they sent a survey to get your opinion and input on how the seminar went.  I really felt good for taking the time to do it and I recommend that you take a look at the corporate website www.executivewomen.org and the professional development link for more opportunities.  I know I’m going to keep an eye on more of the teleseminars.

Submitted by Susan Davis. Susan became an EWI rep for Wells Fargo Bank PCS in 2002, and is on the 2004-2005 EWI Board as co-chair of Hospitality.

Do you have a question or suggestion?

The Your Voice column of the EWI Chapter Pulse was created so that all members have a place to:
ask questions; get answers; give suggestions; let us know what we are doing right; let us know what we could improve upon; but, is not limited to the above.

This is Your Voice.   The best way to do this is to contact YOUR VOICE committee.   The committee will try to respond to all information sent to the committee.   The response will either be published in the Chapter Pulse, or to that individual member representative, if more appropriate.

This is your EWI Chapter.   In addition to adhering to our mission statement, we want you to get the most out of EWI.

Get Ready to Flaunt Your Business and Talents!!

This year the Cavalcade of Firms has been scheduled for our October 12th meeting at a new and exciting location, The Paragon Culinary Institute, located at Fillmore and I-25. We will enjoy a chef prepared buffet in a very unique jazz club and ballroom setting! For newcomers to EWI, the Cavalcade is basically our own Mini Trade Show. Members who wish to participate in “show and tell” set up booths to showcase, or FLAUNT, their business. It’s a great opportunity to get information to and from our membership, and whether you have a booth, or you choose to stroll and take everything in, it makes for a wonderful evening. For more information about reserving a booth, contact Beth Alexander at 593-9458, email me at beth@cachetbasket.com or watch for sign-up sheets that will be distributed in the coming months.

President's Message

EWI 3rd Annual Scholastic Classic Golf Tournament

Our president, Linda Williamson, has graciously given her space to Pat Cooper, Chairman of the 3rd Scholastic Classic Golf Tournament

Thank you, Linda, for featuring our upcoming fund raiser in our April Chapter Pulse.

I thought of a few ideas that may help our membership aside from the traditional sponsorship and perhaps provide some tax benefits to help justify the expense to their company.

One idea is to sponsor a golfer that could not otherwise afford the cost of the tournament, or not have the opportunity to play at Kissing Camels Club. Another thought, if the single hole sponsorship is out of ones budget, the opportunity to co-sponsor a hole is available, and we can pair that company with a second company as we receive commitments. Lastly, it is quite customary to have a company invite their clients to play with them. Again, due to the exclusiveness of the Club, this is a nice opportunity to network. Kathy Kelly and Marti Hartman are accepting goodie bag items and door prizes.

Hopefully, the above ideas are opportunities that may help us fund our primary fund raiser. Who knows, maybe next year we can again increase our scholarship recipients?

Again, thank you for your article in the April Chapter Pulse.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

April - Broadmoor Hotel -
Past, Present, Future - by Jeannie Roblewsky

WOW! What a wonderful evening!

Our April meeting, held at The Broadmoor, was a great success. As always, the staff at the hotel did a lovely job of making us feel special. Alison Scott and Linda Williamson had the tours of the hotel and grounds ready to go as we arrived, the food was exceptional and the weather could not have been better. As we waited for our tour to begin, or as we arrived back from the tour, there was time to have a glass of wine and sit on the terrace.

During dinner, there were lots of announcements and updates especially about our upcoming fundraiser-The 3rd Annual Scholastic Classic Golf Tournament. We also had the privilege of having several members of the Denver EWI chapter join us for the evening. After dinner, Jim Hayes, from The Colorado Festival of World Theatre, gave a short presentation on this phenomenal new organization. Check out their website at www.cfwt.org for more information on their programs.

The evening drew to a close with the door prize drawings. This month, we had some very special door prizes donated by: The Broadmoor, Accent Photo, Shewmaker's Camera Shop, and the Girl Scouts.

Linda and Allison deserve a big THANK YOU for coordinating this entertaining evening.

A Note from Membership

Thanks to all of you, we introduced ten new members at the April Chapter meeting. It would be wonderful if we could add at least ten more new members. We have a lot of open categories.

The best way to recruit is to invite a friend. We know women in all these categories who would be great members. Please contact me and I will get a membership packet to you, or I can take one to them. Most women are pleased when they are asked to consider membership.

Some potential memberships are: veterinarian, candy shop, dentist, most doctors, furniture store, flower shop, book shop, coffee shop, art gallery, photography, commercial real estate, bed and breakfast, wine/liquor and there are many more.

Let’s spread the good news about EWI.

What Does EWI Mean to Me?

by Kathy Wallace

Why am I here? What does it all mean? Who are these people and why am I hanging out with them?

I have clear answers to those questions in my life, my work, and my friends. And EWI is a big part of all of the above.

I have been an EWI member for about 16 years! Wanda Reaves, one of our founders, got me involved when I moved here in 1988 and began working for the Chamber of Commerce. At that time in my life, EWI was all about meeting new people, networking, and getting to know community movers and shakers. When I began working in banking, I got the bank to join as a member so I could continue networking connections. When I moved to a credit union, I had the credit union join for the same reasons. And now as a full time artist, EWI is even more valuable to me than before!

As my career progressed, and my focus changed over the years, my EWI connection has become more meaningful. I still enjoy the networking, business referrals, exposure and meeting new people that I get each month at EWI. I can truly say this helps my business grow!

But even more valuable to me now are the friendships and long term connections that have been built over the years. By getting involved on committees and on the Board, I have gotten to know members on a personal level that I otherwise would not have known well. And that is of value to me!

So I encourage you to meet new people at each meeting! Join an active committee! Get involved, and the value of EWI will increase for you as it has for me! See you at the next meeting!
