Physique Transformations Studio

Rep:  Lauren Shaw

Physique Transformations Studio is a new fitness training/weight loss facility located at 4239 N. Nevada Ave. #111, just south of the Austin Bluffs intersection.  The studio opened in December 2003.  Lauren Shaw and Rick Hauck are the owners/trainers of the studio.  The methods of training are based on years of combined training experience with an all natural, all food nutrition plan composed by Lauren, that has proven to be extremely effective at reshaping the body, losing fat, and making significant visible changes in as little as 4 weeks!  Physique Transformations Studio is different from other training plans and facilities in that cardiovascular activity is not necessary for significant results and no supplementation is required.  We have a private studio with brand new equipment and professional instruction.  We have a genuine dedication to helping people meet their fitness and weight loss goals.

In 1999, Lauren entered the national Body For Life Challenge, and won the 4-Week-Transformation Phase using her own workout and nutrition plan (the Body for Life book had not been published yet).  She has since dedicated herself to becoming a fitness professional, studying and receiving various certifications on Weight Loss Management and Personal Training through the American Council on Exercise (ACE).  She started training in a local studio and taught her clients the same methods she used to win Body For Life.   Her clients range in age from 24 to 90.  Some clients lost as much as 35 lbs, and two clients went on to compete in figure competitions.  Lauren also won the Steel City Bodybuilding Championship in Pueblo in 2003, and is now working on publishing a book about her plan.  You can see some more pictures of client transformations, check out some delicious, healthy recipes, and learn more about Physique Transformations Studio online at www.4weekfitness.com.

President's Message

Adjusting the Sails

By Marti Hartman

As I write this, we have 21 member Firms that did not renew their membership.

So far, my fear of standing and speaking in front of you all has been overshadowed by a couple other challenges.  The one most disturbing and saddening for me is the number of firms and reps who didn't renew.  Several firm membership non-renewals were merely as a result of job changes within our representative membership (i.e., Laura Holland is now with BKD, Liz Pelz is now with Bank of Broadmoor, Bea Steahlin has retired from Sinton Dairy but is staying with us as a Life Member, Julie Blackmun is staying with us as a Life Member, etc.). However, we recognize such job movement within our membership is not the only reason for firm non-renewals.

I think I speak for the entire board when I say we wish EWI could have all the right answers for every member, all the time.  But that would be the EWI fairy tale version.

So - what do we do now?

Our commitment is to be the best we can be; continue to provide opportunities to promote your firm, enhance your personal and professional development, and provide opportunities for community involvement.

Our challenge is to identify any gaps there may be in what we're actually providing and what our firms and reps' expectations are.

We need to be "All About" our members.  Tell us if we're missing the target - it's the only way we'll know.

"We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Did You Know?

by Wanda Reaves

This lively woman doesn't sit still very long.  She is ever moving onward and upward.  She has had multiple careers and is now in her fourth one. She graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo. Her first job was at the National Transportation Center in Pueblo.  She then enrolled in the University of Southern Colorado for an associates degree in Applied Technology-Radiological Technician.  She moved to Colorado Springs and began her work with Penrose Hospital as an X-Ray Technician.   She moved into the emergency room after finding the work a bit too routine for her. It was as if she was on automatic pilot.  It was after she treated a man with a gunshot wound that she began to examine herself and found that she was becoming callous in her work.  This was the catalyst for a change in her career.  She returned to school and gained an associates degree in Computer Science and later a B.S. in Computer Science.  After working at Atmel Corporation she began to consider how beneficial and challenging it might be to be her own boss.  In 1997 she and her husband bought their own business --- two retail stores in Colorado Springs.  When I asked her why, she said, "It was a crazy moment."  But with her business acumen and her husband's graphics degree it was a challenge they could not ignore.

She and her husband Jared have a thirty year old son who works for British Petroleum and lives in Scotland.  It is mostly due to her son that she and Jared have traveled as much as they have.  Once a year they meet up with him and travel to various countries.  She has loved all of the places they have been, i.e. Portugal, Spain, Munich, Italy.  For her husband's 50th birthday they will be traveling to Monaco for the famous Grand Prix race.

Her mother is an artist and lives in Pueblo.  Mom is a singer and pianist and speaks several languages.  Her grandfather moved to Pueblo from Scotland and opened a butcher store which was successful for many years.  His business acumen was most likely inherited by her as she points out that she did not inherit the artist's genes.

After years of reading nothing but technical manuals she discovered reading for pleasure a few years ago.  She favors mysteries and enjoys Dean Koontz and Morton Sanders.

This active woman is not through yet.  She has always believed that she would have five careers and I believe that five careers it will be.  Any of the fears and risks that freeze some of us will not stand and have not stood in her way.

She is a real asset to our EWI Chapter and truly enjoys the "great women" that she has met in our chapter.

I learned from her that digital cameras are great except for one important drawback.  For saving those important pictures, like baby's first steps or birthdays, etc. for long term safekeeping it is much safer to have the selected pictures developed and printed rather than keeping them on a computer disc.

Now you have probably guessed it and you are right!  Click here to find out.
