Spotlight On...
World Savings
Rep: Pat Cooper
Golden West Financial Corp. is the holding company for World Savings Bank, FSB, the nation’s second-largest thrift, and it is headquartered in Oakland, California. It has 492 locations in 38 states throughout the United States. The Company is a leading national originator of mortgage loans where the majority are held in-house. As of September 30th, the Company reached a milestone in terms of size, total assets exceeded $100 billion for the first time in its history. In addition, the Company had an all-time high in loan origination in the third quarter of 2004, up 39% from one year earlier. Golden West’s stock is listed on the NY Stock and Pacific Exchanges under the ticker symbol GDW.
With a degree and a background in agriculture, penetrating the mortgage industry in Colorado Springs was not an easy task. While going through the interview process with local mortgage companies, most interviewees were speculative of Pat Cooper's background and ability to transition from agriculture to city career girl.
Pat became an agriculture loan officer for Farm Credit System and was there for twelve years. Her husband, Barry, worked and continues to work for the Farm Credit System.
|
|
Pat has been with World Savings for 13 years. She started as a Mortgage Loan Officer and now, as District Operations Manager, manages the Colorado Springs district for World Savings as well as maintaining her own accounts. Being with only two companies in a finance career of 25 years is becoming obsolete.
Pat provides financing on housing both owner and rental properties. She has served as President of the Southern Colorado Springs Mortgage Lenders Association, served on the Board of Directors of The Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association and on the local non-profit Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April. Pat joined EWI in 2003, thanks to an invitation from her friend Sharon Olney.
Information on loans can be found by contacting your local World Savings loan representative, Pat Cooper, at mailto:pcooper105@worldsavings.com.

President's Message
Vision in 2005
By Linda Williamson
|
 |
Hope you noticed I did not say goals!
First of all, thank you for your participation and membership in EWI. Second, I realize you have a choice and that this is a volunteer organization that cares about our community and I am excited by your interest. Third, you are to be commended for your desire for involvement associated with this organization and its membership.
I would encourage you to envision how you could make a difference in this organization by putting the challenge of involvement to the test this year.
The vision: Just three words to remember…Involvement, Participation and Volunteerism.
PICTURE this:
Without EWI and YOU, someone’s financial assistance to a fuller life just got a little tougher.
Without EWI and YOU, we lack the involvement to help shape the future of our community.
Without EWI and YOU, we lack the capability to connect with our community through the volunteering activities of involvement in local human service programs.
So……here’s the big question you should ask yourself:
Ask Not What This Organization Can Do For You, but…
What Can YOU Do For This Organization.

December Holiday Luncheon by Caroline Easton
EWI held its annual December luncheon at the Broadmoor in the Penrose Room. We enjoyed delicious cuisine in a beautiful setting and were provided first class service in the finest tradition.
Non-perishable food items were collected for the Care & Share Food Bank. To everyone who donated food, a big thank you for making it such a success. Silver Key was touched by the way you gave presents so generously to seniors who otherwise might not receive gifts this holiday season.
The door prizes were donated by Beth Alexander, Cachet Basket Company; Sally Linnenbrink, Sunrise Assisted Living; and Linda Williamson, The Broadmoor Hotel. Thanks to each and every one of you!
The Colorado Springs Conservatory, a preparatory school for young performing artists, made our event a memorable one! The program included traditional Christmas Carols, an aria from Mozart’s “Figaro”, and three excerpts from the holiday opera, Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” Thank you Linda Weise for your rendition of the role of the mother in the opera. We are proud of the work of these young people and are grateful to you for the lovely production that brought holiday joy to us.

 Did You Know?
by Wanda Reaves
To my fellow EWI ladies: I will not be doing my column again until May. I will be wintering in Texas for three months. I will be back late April to do tree planting and stay until September so that I can do the "Hike the Habitat", again. I will still be taking messages on my business line. If anyone plans to be in the Austin area from February through April they can call me at my daughters, 512-837-3738. My e-mail will be the same: mailto:WFR1832@aol.com
Sincerely, Wanda

Thank You from Care and Share
Thank you to all the members who so generously contributed food and cash donations on behalf of Care and Share at the December meeting. I boxed up all the food and took it to the food bank and our total converted donation was 380 pounds!! That is absolutely wonderful! On behalf of Care and Share, I thank you all for remembering those in need at this time of year. If you didn't get a chance to contribute at the meeting, but would still like to take the opportunity, contributions are always accepted at the food bank - 4875 Northpark Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Remember, for every ONE dollar you contribute, Care and Share can purchase TEN pounds of food for the hungry. That's a great return on your investment.

Thailand by Kay Atwood
Randy and I arrived home safely last night, January 3rd, after a wonderful vacation, even though the epic disaster tsunami hit Thailand. Luckily, we were in northern Thailand, Chaing Mai, when the tsunami hit the western coast of Thailand and wrecked havoc in so many other areas in Southeast Asia.
We met many people who were in Phuket and escaped with their lives. Such a tragedy for the tourists who were killed, the Thai people, Indian people, etc.
We continued with our plans to spend the last 4 days on the island of Koh Samui, which is on the other side of the peninsula from Phuket. We knew it was unaffected and were glad we spent time on that beautiful beach, getting rejuvenated before our 26-hour trek home.
On January 3rd, at 5:00am we flew home from Bangkok to Japan, watched the sun set in Tokyo, flew to San Francisco, watched the sun set and took off for Denver, arriving on January 3rd at 7:00pm after a 3-hour delay in San Francisco. We are so glad to be home!!!
Remember when we were in Italy when 9/11 happened? Maybe we'll stay home for awhile. Randy is already planning a cruise around the Greek islands in 2006. Should we warn them?
Thanks for your prayers and concerns. We felt your love and are so grateful for it. I encourage all who can, to donate money to the disaster funds, Red Cross, and help
in any way possible.
