Spotlight On...
Casey Cool
MA, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I have had my private practice here in Colorado Springs for over three and a half years. I specialize in the treatment of adolescents and families. If I were to declare a super specialty, it would be adolescent and young women. Currently, about seventy percent of my practice is made up of young women from the ages of thirteen to their early twenties. However, I still see some couples and individual adults.
Among many other schools I have been trained at Phillips Graduate Institute, a wonderful private school that offered a clinical psychology degree with an emphasis on marriage and family therapy. As I went to school full time, I also worked full time at a non-public school. I got my emergency teaching certification and worked as a behavioral specialist with S.E.D., severely emotionally disturbed kids. Although when asked what S.E.D means, I would always respond Super Cala Fraga Listic Expialidoshis!
To have the opportunity to walk with people toward their goals in life is truly fascinating and a blessing. I am a behaviorist and take a lot of my practice from theories like solution-focused work. I deal in the here and now, forward mentality but will delve back into family of origin work when needed, especially in couple’s work. I offer a lot of movement in my work and attract clients that really want to reach their goals. I am not the therapist that one would see for years. Although, I still see clients that I met in my first week of practice. I view my practice as a consumer would, always searching for the most bang for the buck. Therapy is a large investment, both emotionally and financially and I strive to create a service that gets people where they want to go.
My best referrals come when someone is hearing about a young person or family struggling with major issues of trauma down to just struggling with being or having young people in the family. I offer a free consultation for people to meet me and learn how I work talking about financial arrangements, confidentiality and how I or someone I know could serve them in the best and most comfortable way.
I am so thankful to the women of EWI for including and supporting me in my professional aspirations! I can be reached at 719.651.9515.

President's Message
Friendship
by Kathleen O'Leary
|
|
Hello, Executive Women – it’s GREAT to be here!
Here it is February and a month of many diverse celebrations: American Heart month, Black History month, start of the Chinese new year, Dental health month, month of the groundhog, start of Mardi Gras and Lent, Presidents Day and of course St. Valentines day.
It’s also Friendship month – yes another occasion for the greeting card companies to create a reason to buy their stock!
Here are some thoughts on that subject:
TO BE A FRIEND YOU MUST LIKE YOURSELF
FRIENDS ARE HONEST
FRIENDS ACCEPT YOU AS YOU ARE
FRIENDS SHARE
FRIENDSHIP TAKES WORK
A friend is not a fellow who is taken in by sham………
A friend is one who knows your faults and doesn’t give a damn.
An old Irish saying.
I have made many friends in EWI and I can only hope that you, too, are blessed with the same. Reach out and trust your heart. Make a new friend this month at EWI...you won’t regret it.
Our friendship is a treasure……
well beyond any measure.

January EWI Meeting
In the cozy dining room of the Patty Jewett Country Club, fifty women
dined on roast beef and chicken marsala and enjoyed our kickoff program
for the New Year. The theme of the evening was Waking the Wolf
Within. Psychologist and EWI member Dr. Ann Carlisle set the mood by
playing a recording of actual wolves howling and yipping during a
winter storm. The main point of Ann's talk was that, buried deeply
within each of us, there are magnificent and unique parts of ourselves
of which we are unaware. In particular, it is usually our wilder,
fiery creative selves that cry out to be acknowledged and brought to
life. The New Year calls on us to wake up that free, undomesticated,
indomitable inner spirit, the sleeping she-wolf, by taking risks to
stretch beyond our comfort zones. Dr. Ann urged us to look for those unknown treasures hidden inside our depths, and to bring them into
action in our lives. At the end of the talk, Ann enacted an inspiring
poem by author and poet Maya Angelou: Phenomenal Woman. Throughout
the lively program, EWI members were doing wolf howls, laughing a lot,
and having a good time letting their inner wolves sing out.
