Spotlight On...
WallaceVISION, LLC
Rep/Owner: Kathryn Wallace
ART, ART, ART!!!!!
Kathy Wallace has been around the local community for a long time. Many of you have known her as a business manager and banker prior to her current calling as full time artist. Her first job in Colorado Springs was running the Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Development Center. And that year – 1988 – was when she joined EWI, thanks to mentor Wanda Reaves! Subsequent careers included banking management, both with Bank One and Ent Federal Credit Union, and Kathy maintained her EWI membership with these organizations, as well. She also spent a year running statewide small business programs for the Governor’s Office in Denver.
Numbers, numbers, numbers! She used to think numbers were fun! But now she finds art, art, art to be more fun! Kathy is a potter and printmaker. Art has always been her first love from her youth and college days. So a few years ago, she started WallaceVISION to follow the dream of her youth.

|
Her work can be seen locally at Commonwheel Artists Co-op in Manitou Springs, Bella Art and Frame in Monument, and at New West Art & Frame in Colorado Springs. Kathy partners with some EWI members as well. Cachet Baskets (Beth Alexander) uses her pottery in her baskets, and sells the Misting Fountains that Kathy makes. The Corkscrew Wine Shop (Nicola Myers) can put Kathy’s art on custom wine bottles for special gifts.
Kathy's work is also featured at A Colorado Memory in Estes Park and at Escarpa Gallery, Houston, Texas. In addition, her work has been shown in many galleries and business venues elsewhere in the Pikes Peak region, Denver, Pueblo and in Taos, New Mexico. “Make Art or Die” summarizes her artist’s statement, and is the title of her website, www.makeartordie.com.
WallaceVISION, LLC, 1030 Dark Horse Drive West, invites you to a Holiday Open House and Studio Sale, December 3,4 and 5. Come by for wine, hors d'oeuvres, conversation and holiday shopping with Kathy's pottery and art. Friends and Collectors Reception Friday, December 3, 4-8pm; Saturday, December 4, 10am-5pm; and Sunday, December 5, 10am-4pm. Phone: 548-0582.

President's Message
Tis the Season
By Linda Williamson
|
 |
There is no greater act of generosity than to open your heart and your arms, and give of your time. Often times the deepest contentment comes from generosity bestowed to others. It gives me satisfaction to know we are an organization that gives all year long. We give through supporting our members' firms, but we GIVE, in a big way, by supporting each other.
Think about gifts that you have received in your life. In most cases, those gifts were simple everyday pleasures: receiving help or encouragement from special people in your life; cultivating some one's talents; and gestures of kindness to others.
Many reached out to Jerry Jo Shires (Benefit Designs Associates) while she is recovering from an accident, and to Sharon Berthrong (Sustaining) whose husband recently passed away, and Mikki Kraushaar (Life Member) who celebrated her amazing 70th birthday. We give because we care!
We give through the hard work of fundraising for our scholarship recipients. EVERYONE participates by providing door prizes, but Verna Severson (Woodford Manufacturing) and Joan Saucerman (Long Term Care Insurance broker) are superstars because of their endless labor of giving to make the golf tournament event so successful. Throughout the year, many of you, like Beth Alexander (Cachet Basket), Kathy Kelly (Op-Tech), and Kathy Wallace (Wallace Vision) were called upon to make contributions to a non-profit organization and give so graciously, time and again. It is also delightful to see how everyone gets involved at Christmas time by providing gifts to the senior citizens at Silver Key.
My hope is that you all acknowledge your involvement and support that EWI has brought to our community this past year and that your fulfillment, from your acts of giving, grant you a prosperous, thriving and healthy New Year!

November PILLAR Round Table by Beth
Jones
The November EWI round table program proved to be an interesting discussion with the combination of several PILLAR Facilitators aided by some EWI members. Bonnie Riley, PILLAR’s founder was unable to attend; however, our own Ann Carlisle (Psychologist) stepped up to the plate. Other facilitators were: Linda Bloom (Sustaining), Casey Cool (Counselor), Katherine Duboue, Anne Kidd, Kathryn Kuisle, Myra Tovey, and Kelly Wood (Stading and Wood Chiropractic). Attendees were each provided with a copy of PILLAR’s latest quarterly publication with activities and classes supporting its motto: “Lifelong Learning… Just for the fun of it”.
The facilitators began by leading us into a discussion about our role models. Interestingly, some women’s role models were men! Most were strong minded, independent women leaders with fortitude. One example, (not a surprise to those who know her) was Wanda Reeves. Next we discussed potential fears of growing into our vintage years. We concluded that our concerns were mainly based on possible money problems and illnesses. Having a zest for life and a positive outlook will help keep us young!
Those who were not able to attend missed the opportunity to share and hear first hand how we look back to a variety of people who have touched our lives and been mentors to us.
