Spotlight On...

United Title Company
Brenda-Moore Sandoval
I arrived in Colorado Springs in 1970 at 18 years old. My first job was as a florist at the Broadmoor Florist but by 1972 I was working for Oklahoma Mortgage as a loan processor. In 1974 I passed the real estate exam and became a Realtor andI sold my first house 6 days after obtaining my license. My husband was also a Realtor and we worked as a team - he would list houses, I would work buyers. During that time we purchased houses for renovation and/or rentals until we had a cache' of 20.
I continued selling real estate when I went back to mortgage loans. For a period of one year I was also a Real Estate Appraiser for Park & Associate. I worked myself up the
corporate ladder to Branch Manager of Security Pacific Mortgage in 1981. By 1987 the real estate market was in poor shape and the CEO's walked in one day and herded
uslike cattle into two different rooms. The ones of us that were in my office still had our jobs while the ones who had gone into the closing room were no longer a part of our office family.
The day that happened I went home and told my husband I was burnt out and asked if we could please move to Hawaii. We had been vacationing there yearly for the past 4 years. So, we moved to The Big Island also known as Hawaii. Once there I immediately began working for First Hawaiian Mortgage and later obtained my real Hawaii real estate license.
When we returned to Colorado Springs in 1991, I had the opportunity to work for First American Title as an Account Representative. Since then I worked at Chicago Title and
currently I am with United Title Company.
I love the title business more that any other aspect of the real estate industry. I am grateful for all the positions I have been able to experience as it has given me a well rounded knowledge. The opportunities to meet and service people in all of their real estate needs is a thrilling experience
as I love meeting people and helping them. I can be reached at 719.499.3606 or bsandoval@unitedtitlecompany.com.

President's Message
Program Diversity
by Kathleen O'Leary
|
|
This month I just wanted to reflect on what we have done this year in the way of presenting programs to our members. I am hoping by doing this that we will all look back and realize that WOW we really did have a diverse and dynamic program schedule! Our efforts to present something to appeal to our different senses and different interests were well rewarded.
We started out with the always popular Cavalcade of Firms that allows our members to showcase their businesses in an open booth type setting. We had over 30 firms participate this year. Beth Alexander of Cachet Baskets was gracious enough to organize this event for us.
Our night at Pikes Peak Hospice was very special because of the passion of their staff, the beautiful facility and setting they have and the eloquence of their director, Martha Barton. They were celebrating their 25th anniversary of providing care for the Pikes Peak region. Martha commented to me after the meeting that she felt we had a very special group of ladies in our chapter and we must be very proud. Susan Davis of Wells Fargo Bank was the facilitator on this meeting.
We were then treated to our annual Broadmoor Resort holiday luncheon experience that included a flute ensemble and moving testimonials from our scholarship recipients. There is nothing quite like the Broadmoor all dressed up for the holidays. Special thank you to Linda Williamson and Allison Scott for making that possible every year for us.
The start of the new year brought some howling from our very own Dr. Ann Carlisle encouraging us to wake the wolf within all of us. Her personal life story was woven with a combination of quotes from other women to encourage us to look for those unknown treasures hidden inside our depths, and to bring them into action in our lives. She challenged us to wake up that free, undomesticated, indomitable inner spirit, the sleeping she-wolf, by taking risks to stretch beyond our comfort zones.
For the annual heart month of February we listened attentively as popular cardiologist (and husband of Paulette) Dr. David Greenberg gave us a presentation on identifying risks and treatment options for cardiovascular disease in women. Dr. Greenberg gave us stern advice about taking charge of our own healthcare, eating and exercise, and listening to our bodies. Thank you, Paulette!
In March we were fortunate enough to have the new president of the Economic Development Corporation, Mike Kazmierski. Mike spoke to us about the non-profit nature of the corporation and that the mission of the EDC includes references to quality of life and meeting community demands for primary jobs for the Colorado Springs region.
Our Hospitality Chairwoman this year, Tia Warren of Executive Image by Tia, was the featured speaker in April. Tia gave us advice on how to achieve our ultimate appearance. Her presentation included learning about why image is of critical importance in business, defining what business casual dress really means and how to dress slimmer and taller.
The talented artist we have in our midst, Kathy Wallace of Wallace Vision, arranged the May meeting that brought the Fine Arts Center CEO, Dr. Michael DeMarsche to give us his insight into the art climate of the region. He spoke to the success the center has had recently in getting world class exhibits and their plans for doing more of the same in the future.
We spent time with a very powerful woman, Brigadier General Rosanne Bailey of NORAD, sharing some interesting stories of women in history in the military. She explained how at first women tried to disguise themselves as men to get in! Why would they do that???
This month we are very much looking forward to hearing from Dr. Nancy Saltzman about Second Order Impact. Dr. Saltzman will share a universal message of hope while defining the hidden harvest: how people impact others but never realize the outcome.
As you can see we have had quite a varied pallet of speakers and topics. We traveled to a Jazz club, resort, hospital, golf club, hotel, rodeo museum, salon, art center, arena, and popular restaurant to attend these meetings. Our venues have been as varied as our programs. Many thanks to my Program Chair, Donna Vessey and to Tia Warren and all of the rest of you that helped to make our programs this year be relevant and inviting. I have enjoyed working with all of you! It is truly due to all of your efforts that we have had success with our diverse programs.

Our July meeting was held at the Colorado Springs World Arena and the speaker was the current Commander of NORAD, General Rosanne Bailey . General Bailey ’s presentation included information about on her 30 year career in the Air Force as well as on the impact of women in the military and their role in war time". The mission of the military including references to quality of life and meeting wartime demands for women soldiers. She explained the history of women in the military before it was an accepted occupation for women. Her history included the secret identities of these women and how they had to hide their gender from the world in order to serve. General Bailey will retire from the Air Force next month and is looking forward to her retirement as well as getting involved with the community and social groups and is even considering EWI. We were very fortunate to have General Bailey as one of our speakers as she gave us an insight into a world most of us only read about. Door prizes were from Kathleen O’Leary – Pepsi, Bea Stahlin, Dianne Loper, and Christine Ressler.
