Spotlight On...
Aqua Prima Center Inc.
Kathryn D. Flobeck
Aqua Prima Center is a non-profit think tank for Water.
We study, research, and develop water saving processes and devices. It is hard work to convince the public that we are in a drought. As long as water comes out of the faucet, everyone is happy. In the 1950’s we had water rationing in Colorado, in 2000 we had water rationing. Our Colorado population is predicted to almost double by 2025, to 8,000,000 folks. What makes people think that there won’t be a water shortage?
We have 4 major initiatives. We have a co-operative gray water project with Western State College and Colorado Institute of Technology where in residential homes, we will collect the water from shower, tub, sink, and washer drains to store it to be REUSED to irrigate lawns and flush toilets.
We have developed a wireless irrigation project to both increase useable land by 24 percent and at same time reduce water usage by 50 percent or more. We have developed a model for a Water Currency called Aqua Bucks which can both save the farmers and ranchers tax dollars a well as permit virtual movement of water values around a basin.
We have pushed for development of several humanitarian desalinization devices to provide fresh and potable water for hurricane and tsunami victims as well as for small poor and waterless villages in third world countries. We have other projects that relate to national security, and naturally we don’t discuss them in public.
As Vice President of Administration, I try to keep all 22 advisors on our Board as well as my husband Jack, organized and on target, while setting up schedules, organizing trips and seminars, keeping our 501 (c) 3 finances in order, producing grants, proofing articles and publications, and handling all inquiries and correspondence.
After a lifetime as a teacher and principal, along with a career as a business executive, I find that this has to be one of the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding assignments I have ever had. Please feel free to contact us at 719-592-9860 or kf_delcom@yahoo.com.

President's Message
It's Part of Who We Are
by Kathleen O'Leary
|
|
Hello, Executive Women – it’s GREAT to be here!
As you are reading this article the deadline is quickly approaching for you to step up and commit to providing support to our annual Scholastic Classic golf tournament fundraiser. It will be held on June 2 at the unbelievably gorgeous Kissing Camels Golf Club. As your president I am asking for your support. This is a ONE time a year event that allows us to provide scholarships to individuals at a transitional point in their lives where they need a little help to complete their education. Think of Rebecca, Kelly and Barbara to put a face on this effort. It’s part of who we are! And now THEY are a part of who we are!
There are 18 holes on a golf course and we ask for each one to be ‘sponsored’ by one or two companies. There can also be 72 golfers on the course during the tournament. There are door prizes given out after the tournament via raffle tickets purchased at time of check-in. There are goodie bags/tee favors given to each golfer. There will be a fantastic meal after the tournament provided by our Kissing Camels hosts.
All of this adds up to a great day of golfing and maybe some duffing, but more than that it adds up to support for individuals in our community that need our help to reach their academic goals.
It’s part of who we are – and you can do your part to support it by sponsoring a hole, donating money, door prizes, tee favors, putting together a foursome or donating your time to help.
Contact Kay Atwood kayatwood@juno.com or Bea Steahlin steahlin@aol.com to provide your support this year…….
because it’s part of who we are!!!!
We need you to do YOUR part! Thank you so much!
And Rebecca, Barbara and Kelly also thank you!

March EWI Meeting
Our March meeting was held at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and the speaker was the current president of the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation, Mike Kazmierski. Mike’s presentation included information about the foundation and how it is a non-profit organization that is funded by about 200 private investors. The mission of the EDC includes references to quality of life and meeting community demands for primary jobs. He explained how many other states and communities have a lot more money invested in their economic development than Colorado which impacts the amount of incentives we are able to offer prospective employers to come here. His goal is to educate the public in Colorado Springs that if we want to have quality jobs we will need to invest in the efforts of the EDC to be competitive with lots of other beautiful communities. We were very fortunate to have Mike as one of our speakers as he is a very sought after resource for business development programs within our community. Door prizes were donated by Pepsi, La Casita Mexican Restaurants, Kathleen Kershaw Realtor and Wells Fargo Bank.

Thought I would pass on a short note (from the RSVP email) from Claudia Saunders with District 11 Freemont Elementary. She says she cannot attend the Wednesday meeting in March. She has chemo that day and usually feels pretty sick afterwards. She’s sorry for missing the meeting and says “hi” to everyone! If any of you (or anyone else) know her better maybe drop her a line and say hello. Her email address is saundcw@d11.org.
